The current age limit for entry into this site is 13&up, but I think the age limit should no longer exist because there's an undiscovered Josh Waitzkin(or however you spell his name out there who wants to play chess, but can't play OTB because no will want to play him, and then when he wants to play CC chess he is DENIED acsess because under 13! I would like to know what reasoning went into having a age limit in the first place. my only guess would be that they don't want to expose them to some of the topics discussed in the general forums...what do you guys think?

Why not drop the age limit, but have restricted threads. every member can know that young players are at the site and then there could be an "adult-restricted" area for certain threads that are about adult topics
no really raunchy stuff should be tolerated anyway, RHP should be about chess, there's plenty of other places for other interests, right?

so age limit or no, anyone that wants to join is going to join. The reason this has been implemented i guess is so that RHP complies with that online act and so Russ doesnt need parents to let kids on. Its just easier with the age limit. If the younger kids arent smart enough to lie about their age, should they really be here?? haha kidding with the last part (kind of)
Originally posted by TDR1As the thread link above shows, the danger isn't the forums so much as the in-game chats. Even if a kid is smart enough to lie about his age, he might not be smart enough to tell his parents that some perv is coming on to him or he might be afraid to say something to anyone because he's too young to be here to begin with. Of course, I'm sure that in the privacy of ingame chat everyone here is a perfect gentleman or lady.

(warning to those who cannot detect a joke. please be advised that sometimes a witty remark is just that and nothing more. please vent your moral outrage in a different thread. thank you)

Apparently this is for legal reasons. See Russ's post in Thread 14633
