I've almost done this a couple of times, and my opponent just did it - hew put his thoughts on the game in the wrong one, revealing to me his plans for the game. It made me think that it would be better if these were separated a bit to prevent this being such an easy mistake to make. It does kind of kill the game when this happens.
You could leave Notes where it is and move message right to the bottom.
Has this happened to anyone else?

Yes i've seen this happen before. I don't use notes at all as a result.

It would also be nice to have the notes text in bold this would further differenciate between the two

I think I need to concede that this is a serious problem that needs sorting out.

I have been dealing with feedback with one individual who complained that the messaging on the site was not working. After a few messages back and forth, I logged in as them, and, you guessed it, they had been trying to message their friend via the note book for the entire game.

Due to a slight physical disability I have several times clicked "submit move" when I was aiming for the message link. If the list is to be rearranged could this be taken into consideration too?

It's happened to me, too. I was thinking out a line of play and I
posted it in the message box. It was a line that won me material,
and he (my opponent) was put out about it; he thought I was
bragging about it... 😛

So, that's why we need those conditional moves! 😉
