@very-rusty saidIGNORED
If I thought hard enough, and cared enough I could give you a list of people said they were going to IGNORE me. Kegge being one of them and you saw the pleasant exchange we had recently I am sure! 😉

@very-rusty saiddid some old fart say something?

Now don't make the mistake that I am going to ignore you, I think that is just childish at the end of the day!

@badradger saidYou see badger that is not ignoring, that is throwing what I call a lame insult. There are lots of old farts on here actually!!! 😛 😉
did some old fart say something?
You should have just made a remark without quoting, but then everyone would still get what you were talking about anyway. Just blowing a lot of hot air actually! Did you get the pun or do I need to explain it to you?

@kewpie saidSo, just to be clear, those who disagree are "nasty critters"?
Before we got the thumbs we had the option to "recommend" which encouraged people to give credit to posts they liked, but didn't give the option to sneer. My personal opinion is that the change was a retrograde step. Thumbs bring the nasty critters out of the woodwork.

I agree, too many nasty critters thumbing down posts! 😉 😛 You all know who you are!!! 😉

@very-rusty saidI feel that your anti-social agenda is pathetic and astonishingly tone-deaf.
I give you the thumbs down wolfy, just another way for the little group to control a thread as far as I am concerned!
Some of you don't mind going in and derailing threads yourselves, but get all upset when the same is done to a thread of yours or the little group.
We don't need a little group controlling the threads.
Russ, has put moderators in charge of removing ...[text shortened]... my opinion once again.
Who do you feel should controll the threads, give me some names!!!

@very-rusty saidIf your mind were any sharper than a dull crayon, I wouldn't mind your diatribes. I was an only child and I have developed a way better sense of community than you have. You are always all about yourself, nothing more.
Ignore me all you want, no love lost here. Do you think I am going to change after 14 years??? I say what is on my mind rather you or ANYONE else like it.
If it is against the TOS the Moderators will remove it as has been done in the recent past between me and others going over the line......You've went over the line, we all go over the line at one time or other.

@kewpie saidBanal posters also are usually at the top of the 'thread-killer' lists, for exactly the reasons you cite.
Banal posters eventually kill forums, in a way that even the one-eyed conspiracy theorists cannot do. They're just unanswerable. Like the guy at the party who interrupts every conversation with some irrelevancy, triggering a disruption of thought processes and causing individuals to just walk away. They may re-form and attempt to continue their exchange of ideas, but the bo ...[text shortened]...
Anonymity is a wonderful thing. Replace "party" with "business meeting" and see the difference.
@petewxyz saidThis was the "rec" system. It was also abused in other ways.
What about if you went the opposite way to curtailing and you earned more posting rights in the thread for getting green thumbs up. Ignore the red ones so nobody can get victimized, but run out of posts for that thread if nobody is liking what you are contributing? Maybe start with a given two posts for any thread but get two more available everytime somebody liked seeing you post in it?
@moonbus saidI think there is next to no abuse in the current system. By attaching detriment of some kind to the number of down thumbs, you introduce a reason for abuse.
I favour a trial run with some arbitrary threshold, either a temporary forum ban, or a max-nr. of posts within a certain time period.
@very-rusty saidThis is a strawman.
Certainly if you want a little group to dictate who posts and who doesn't!
-VR
You only separate posts as to whether they are 'for-you' or 'against-you'. That's not what this discussion is about. It is about people like you who make objectively bad posts because they are selfish.
@moonbus saidI would not be against some kind of multi-level ban protocol.
With freedom comes also the responsibility to use it well and wisely. However, some people indulge themselves only in the freedom but are less skilled at using it wisely.
No one is proposing to introduce censorship or to suppress unpopular opinions. However, yapping up the forums with spam is not expressing an opinion; it's just junk.
If a limit on the max-nr. of posts ...[text shortened]... od would, in addition, impose some discipline on those who cannot or will not discipline themselves.
The mods must be fully on board, though.

@suzianne saidYou see, first thing you do is direct a personal insult towards me.
If your mind were any sharper than a dull crayon, I wouldn't mind your diatribes. I was an only child and I have developed a way better sense of community than you have. You are always all about yourself, nothing more.
You think you have a better sense of community when all you do is throw insults?
And you think of other people's feelings I suppose?...........Highly unlikely from what you type in here and other forums.
Your other posts directed at me, not even worth a reply!

@badradger saidIf you hit reply instead of quote then you are not talking to me other than that you are still chatting with me silly badger!!! 🙂
socialy distancing myself fro an irritating pest.
No just kidding you'd have to just post without hitting either reply or quote! 😉 You see at the bottom you would have to hit there then the post isn't sent to anyone specific!
