    Really?

    Prove it.

I guess that means quoting another is like licking their balls, according to your logic.
Referencing another person shows respect, acknowledgement and open-mindedness. Referencing oneself does the opposite.

'Tis said, the pipe and lute that charm our ears
    Derive their melody from rolling spheres;
    But Faith, o'erpassing speculation's bound,
Can see what sweetens every jangled sound.

We, who are parts of Adam, heard with him
The song of angels and of seraphim.
Out memory, though dull and sad, retains
Some echo still of those unearthly strains.

Oh, music is the meat of all who love,
Music uplifts the soul to realms above.
The ashes glow, the latent fires increase:
We listen and are fed with joy and peace.

    ~ Rumi

    Not necessarily.

Sometimes one is quoted to draw attention to the fact that they are anything but deserving of respect.

That you should take exception to my contribution to this thread in the form of some trite and insignificant quip, and seek to denounce it by suggesting I'm closed minded, only draws attention to yourself, and carries no significant weight of meaning or purpose, except to perhaps reveal a certain level of envy on your part.

Another good one. It can be true in some cases and on certain levels.

I know what you're going to say.
And yet you quite like me, agree with more than half I say and think I’m a good debater. Interesting.
