Even if I knew that tomorrow the world would go to pieces, I would still plant my apple tree.

Martin Luther

What people expect to happen is
Always different from what actually happens.
From this comes great disappointment;
This is the way the world works.

- Sutta Nipata

"There is a generation, O how lofty are their eyes! and their eyelids are lifted up."

Proverbs 30:13

I was born with a divine jewel,
Long since filmed with dust
This morning, wiped clean, it mirrors
Streams and mountains, without end.

- Ikuzanchu

"We need to walk in and according to this wonderful spirit (Rom. 8:4). When we walk according to this spirit, all things are ours. There is no need to seek after victory, because when we walk in this spirit, victory is ours. In fact, there is even no need of victory. We only need victory when we have enemies. In the spirit, however, there is no enemy."

“Living in the Spirit,” ch. 2, p. 476 by Witness Lee

“He denounced him openly as a charlatan--a fraud with no valuable knowledge of any kind, or powers beyond those of an ordinary and rather inferior human being.”

Mark Twain, The Mysterious Stranger

“The reason why many are still troubled, still seeking, still making little forward progress is because they haven't yet come to the end of themselves. We're still trying to give orders, and interfering with God's work within us. ”
― A. W. Tozer

"Each time, before you intercede, be quiet first, and worship God in His glory. Think of what He can do, and how He delights to hear the prayers of His redeemed people. Think of your place and privilege in Christ, and expect great things!"

- Andrew Murray

“Sometimes I go to God and say, "God, if Thou dost never answer another prayer while I live on this earth, I will still worship Thee as long as I live and in the ages to come for what Thou hast done already. God’s already put me so far in debt that if I were to live one million millenniums I couldn’t pay Him for what He’s done for me.”
― A.W. Tozer

"Nature is full for us of seeming inconsistencies and glad surprises."

Margaret E. Barber

"Man’s works do not even come close to the works of the Holy Spirit. If the Holy Spirit does not work, all the efforts of man will come to naught."

John Sung

The happiness of most people is not ruined by great catastrophes or fatal errors, but by the repetition of slowly destructive little things.

Ernest Dimnet

I was not partial to the whiff of religion, but a lung full now and again I decided was probably good for the soul. So I sat there that morning, a stranger to God and all the repentant sinners around me, dressed in their Sunday best, and listened to the words of the animated preacher, his sermon resonating from his pulpit across the wooden pews and radiating chapels, down the full length of the nave and up into its arches. Yet it was only in leaving that I truly felt God’s presence, outside in the heavenly chirping of the birds.
