@ghost-of-a-duke saidI don't disagree. I think you spelled it out well enough, and it makes perfect sense from your perspective.
When I think of delusional I tend to think of people who are weak-minded, in the sense that they have been overly gullible and willingly embraced the irrational.
Many, if not most, of the smartest people I know are theists, of one kind or another. I can't, therefore, put their belief in God (or gods) down simply to delusional thinking. I consider it more a case o ...[text shortened]... true. Heck, that's why I believed in Santa as a kid and didn't properly scrutinize his exisistence.
I think my assertion that it is delusional to believe in something that doesn't exist, as a stand alone inference, makes sense too.
I'm not throwing the baby out with the bath water as FMF seems to think. I'm not suggesting that people who believe in something that doesn't exist are devoid of rational thought or are incapable of living meaningful lives.
I'm not criticizing anyone's intellect. I'm merely trying to have a discussion about a concept or idea with an open mind.
@fmf saidNot sure what you mean.
And yet, your assertion that "believing in something that doesn't exist is delusional" ~ in the realm of theism etc. ~ appears to be an idea you are steadfastly refusing to simply make assertions about and not discuss.
I'm not refusing to discuss anything, except the off topic direction you are prodding it into.
You have an argument against anything and everything I say. You have a disagreeable attitude like a snotty teenager. 😂
@josephw saidI mean, your claim that "believing in something that doesn't exist is delusional" ~ in the realm of theism ~ appears to be an idea you just want to make assertions about and not discuss.
Not sure what you mean.
My point blank replies were met with...
"You are twisting yourself into a knot, in your mind, trying to evade the point."
"You just twisted away with gibberish not relevant to my assertion."
"You didn't miss the point. You just ran away from it."
"More twisting ad hominem gibberish." [This was a bizarre one!]
"I made a simple statement, and now you're freaking out because you can't refute the logic."
