You have erred (to quote a VERY famous historical Savior). My "real values" would be to respond to someone who did me harm or insulted me by cutting off his head and ----ting down his neck. Another would be to exact revenge on another by going after his family, as that would likely hurt the offender more than anything I could do to him personally. There ...[text shortened]... Christianity doesn't jive with "my values"; therefore, I do my best to jive with Christ's.
So why do you follow Christ? You say it is because you have to answer to him. Does that mean you are acting out of fear?

And I never equated "my values" to "human nature".
A "bad person"? I'm a sinner saved by grace, so if that's how you define bad, otay.

You don't see many atheists (other that psychopaths) issuing fatwas on people.

Originally posted by scottishinnzThere's always Charles Manson ... Besides, a fatwah makes no sense outside a religious context. But what about snuff porn? Not that I'd say it's 'an atheist thing', but hopefully you get my point.

Not nowadays, at least (although that's not to say there aren't some).
However, there is still plenty of intolerance preached by the church.

Originally posted by Bosse de NageReligion IS organized oppression. That's exactly what it is. For instance, I heard with my own three ears on the short wave bands, there are these nut case fundie 'christians' who make up the majority, and a shameful thing it is, of english language broadcasts now. Anyway, I heard this nutter saying about some other sect of christianity, like maybe Baptists or the like, this guy being some kind of pentacostal-like clone, saying those 'baptists' should not be allowed to live, they don't have the true faith. So don't go just blaming Islam. Don't forget, there is still an office of inquisition open to this day in South America, even if right now they are not burning people at the stake, although I heard they did burn 'witches' in Kenya recently, like 9 or 10 of them at one time. I don't think religious suppression is in the slightest diminished. You watch, a planetwide disaster like 'global warming', maybe in 100 years or whatever, causing billions to die, there will be massive conversions back to whatever churches, they will gain more political power and the suppression will come back, you can take that to the bank. We are not living in a moderate picnic world and never have and never will.
Religion provides a convenient scapegoat. The fact is that honour killings occur in many countries. A celebrated RHP example was the honour killing of a Yeziri girl by her family, for seeing a Muslim boy -- ironically, the video was posted in the Debates forum as anti-Muslim propaganda. It's a fair bet that Arabs (amongst others) were committing honour ...[text shortened]... ligion' isn't likely to achieve much, even if it were possible without organised oppression.

Take a look at the killing going on in Ireland, I had a buddy pulled into a basement full of IRA killers asking him the question "Are you Orange or are you Green" and he could have been killed but he talked his way out of it, he didn't even know if they were really IRA or what.
