Jesus was speaking to the religious hypocrites signifying who they were begotten of, namely Satan, who is also the father of the lie. Satan told the first lie making him, metaphorically speaking, the father of lies. Subsequently anyone not led of the spirit of God is led by the spirit of Satan and is a child of disobedience.
All that is a simple Bible fundamental. It doesn't take a rocket scientist or a scholar to understand it.
