What does your god stop you doing?
(Even though you really, really want to do it!)
Fetchmyjunk suggested that the benefit of being an atheist was that one
had no god to stop one doing anything - yet in reality my life is very much
the same as my Christian neighbour except I have wild sex every Sunday
morning instead of going to Church.

If there is really no difference between the two of you, then both of you will end up in the same place.

Do you think God uses sex to stop you from going to church? 😕
You need to think it through a little further. There is a limit to what we can or cannot do because we are finite, and the range of choices we have are confined to a narrow spectrum. You could say God stopped you from flying when He created you without wings for example.
But God didn't create you without volition, and that means He doesn't "stop" you or force you to do anything you are able to do against your will.
There is a being though that wants to turn you into an automaton and a slave to any and every vice he can till you're dead. So you have a choice. You can believe God and live, or you can be deceived and die.

God will eventually end your life, even though you may really really want to continue living. Up until the day you die you have the gift of free will. But certainly God may orchestrate events in your life that may present you with choices but the choice is still ultimately yours to make.

Looking back over 53 years on the surface, four decades as a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ, I can't think of a single thing He stopped me from doing--- including some really he-believes-in-God-and-lives-like-that moments.
Almost as though He knew I couldn't shock Him but He had enough to bankroll my efforts anyway so He let the film roll.
Looking back on some of those sheer comedic genius moments of pain-inducing slapstick pratfalls, I sometimes cringe myself into a "Wish He would have stopped that one!" position.
But, I guess He knew better!

"Almost as though He knew I couldn't shock Him,..." but more than likely because He wasn't watching.

There is a theory that a truly skillful "god" would leave not traces whatsoever when engaging in the business of 'time-hopping' and whatever else it is they do.
Every now and then they screw up and some one sees something unexplainable. Yes there are total mad people then then there are perfectly normal people who see things they cannot explain.
Ah just another hallucination, the doc will tell you. Take these pills . they'll help you forget those nasty hallucinations .😛
