Could the trinity of Christianity be an internal feature of humans? Something that we draw on from our own internal strengths and reserves to help us survive?
Is it possible that Christians have externalised this?

The particulars are obviously going to be based on the culture and usefulness of the concept to the particular group.
It doesn't have to be a trinity.
My point is that any religious perspective that externalises its 'god' may well be drawing on internal human strengths without realising it.
