I'd spend all my time and money witnessing.

I mean think about it, people. Immortal souls are at stake here.

You simply don't have time for golf, or nice cars, or posting in a word association thread on a chess website. Or anything else.

Wives and children are, like Playstations, a terrible distraction. Saving two souls is better than creating one. Besides, what if the ungrateful little SOB turns against the church? Then your score goes down by one!

That sounds like a mere excuse for sloth and indolence.

What's more important to you than saving a soul?

Is it the golf?

Given what's at stake, it seems pretty common-sensical.

what is at stake? i mean really.

i can't save souls. i can tell people about jesus, but that doesn't mean they'll get saved.
Free-Willie says, "They must choose for themselves."
Omni-All God says, "I'll have mercy on whom I'll have mercy."
Jesus says, "AS YOU GO make disciples of all nations."

based on the latter two, i may pursue golf, food, fancy cars, etc. while "witnessing."

Wouldn't you rather pursue God in everything you do...what a shining example you would be...

are you saying that "witnessing" equals pursuing god?

thus far the thread has referred to "witnessing" as the chief end of man. i disagree with THIS statement.

I wasnt talking about witnessing...i was talking about pursueing... 2 different things to me...to pursue you already believe and you want to make yourself better in his eyes.... to witness is to save a soul....thats how i see it anyway...

again: this thread isn't talking about pursuing god. it's about saving souls.

btw, if you're already a x-ian, how could you make yourself "better in his eyes" unless you're earning approval. if you're earning approval, then what was the point of christ's death and the x-ian being clothed with christ's righteousness? i was under the impression the god said of christ, "this is my son in whom i am well pleased." he did not say this of any other person. the only other place i can think of off hand that refers to pleasing god is this, "without faith, it is impossible to please god." i fear that you dabble in legalism and a pharisaical mind-set.

Oh dear... you mistake my love of the Lord for something quite heavy.......the simple fact is.... i believe... to make myself better...cos i was born a sinner.... i must follow his word and trust in him...which i do...

They have free will to choose to accept god, if they see fit; you have free will to choose to dedicate your life to giving them all the information to make the right choice, if you see fit.

It's like elections; ultimately people will vote as they see fit. Surely that doesn't mean you shouldn't campaign?
