@caissad4 saidHe also told his disciples that he wasn't going to a feast (or some such event) but then went anyway in secret.
Jesus said that there were people who would be alive when he returned . The people he was referring to were those who were listening to him as he spoke those words . Either he was a liar or there are some 2000 year old people still around .

Let’s get the scripture up so we can see what we’re talking about:
For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father’s glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what they have done. Truly I tell you, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.
Matthew 16: 27/28
NIV

@divegeester saidHey-up, a thumb down for quoting a scripture.

Tough crowd.

@divegeester saidThat is rather a lame explanation from those commentators. Transfiguration cannot remotely be equivalent to him returning in his Kingdom.
Many commentators say that Jesus was referring to his transfiguration.

@ghost-of-a-duke saidHe didn't go with them but went later, that isn't lying.
He also told his disciples that he wasn't going to a feast (or some such event) but then went anyway in secret.
@divegeester saidYeah and there are times there is no rational explanation. This is one of those times. So rather than come up with a ridiculous explanation where people will laugh at you, it is better to say " I really do not know, what Jesus meant there "
You’re one for the words of Jesus, so what do you think he meant?
There is no requirement to understand everything in the bible.
