    35for I did hunger, and ye gave me to eat; I did thirst, and ye gave me to drink; I was a stranger, and ye received me;

    36naked, and ye put around me; I was infirm, and ye looked after me; in prison I was, and ye came unto me.

    37`Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when did we see thee hungering, and we nourished? or thirsting, and we gave to drink?

    38and when did we see thee a stranger, and we received? or naked, and we put around?

    39and when did we see thee infirm, or in prison, and we came unto thee?

    40`And the king answering, shall say to them, Verily I say to you, Inasmuch as ye did [it] to one of these my brethren -- the least -- to me ye did [it].

    41Then shall he say also to those on the left hand, Go ye from me, the cursed, to the fire, the age-during, that hath been prepared for the Devil and his messengers;

    42for I did hunger, and ye gave me not to eat; I did thirst, and ye gave me not to drink;

    43a stranger I was, and ye did not receive me; naked, and ye put not around me; infirm, and in prison, and ye did not look after me.

    44`Then shall they answer, they also, saying, Lord, when did we see thee hungering, or thirsting, or a stranger, or naked, or infirm, or in prison, and we did not minister to thee?

    45`Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say to you, Inasmuch as ye did [it] not to one of these, the least, ye did [it] not to me.

    46And these shall go away to punishment age-during, but the righteous to life age-during.'

    -nourish the hungry
    -clothe the poor
    -shelter the the stranger
    -care for the infirm
    -visit prisoners

    these are core liberal values. all go against the grain of modern christian conservatism.

    How is that a lie Joseph?

    It seems pretty clear that the message given by Jesus was to help all (wasnt it?)

    And even if it wasn't clear that Jesus was "liberal" or a "socialist", in josephw's view, surely there's some reasoned rebuttal - other the merely claiming that VoidSpirit is lying? Surely?

    The logical thought progression would be that you would think. Not sure how there is a massive leap to an accusation of lying.

    Unsubstantiated accusation would be an understatement methinks.

    Why would a Christian respond to the words of Christ like that? Maybe you should change your religion.

    Look nook. Void starts a thread quoting scripture. Then says liberalism's core values reflect those values as put forth by Jesus, and then contrasts conservative Christians as against those values.

    A lie.

    The exact opposite is true.

    Really, from what l understand about Liberalism the comment was quite on the money.

    There are a great deal of conservative Christian Americans who are very exclusive about who will or wont be with God after the rapture - these people appear to hold views contrary to what Jesus preached.

    Are you able to express your differing perception, and what you actually mean by the "exact opposite", without accusing the person you disagree with of "lying"?

    factually untrue. conservative christians are on the leading edge when it comes to:
    1. wanting to throw strangers out of their country ( "illegal immigrants" )
    2. being vocally against national health care for everyone.
    3. putting an end to state welfare and food programs.
    4. constantly lobbying for corporate interests rather than those of the poor.

    conservative christians have lost their way. they don't worship jesus of nazareth, they worship supply-side jesus.

    You are correct.

    If there's one thing I've learned, it's that political parties in the UK don't share the same philosophies as their similarly named parties in the US. Not usually, anyways. British political parties is not my strong point, though, so I might be slightly mistaken.

    What conservative wishes to see people in need?

    As for myself, if I have money to help, I help. However, if I DON'T have money to help, I don't take out a loan I know I can't pay back to give away. That's called theft.

    The problem is that conservatives don't want to see the people in need, and they will take great steps to keep from seeing them, from denying them simple social services to deporting them, all in the name of keeping their beloved tax breaks.

    I see people in need every single day. I see and talk to people with nothing every day. And I mean *nothing* to their name. There is NO reason why anyone in America needs to go hungry. None at all.
