Yeah, he was. The official position seems to be he had no choice at the time, being a child in Nazi Germany.

i understand he has a hard time becoming a likeable pope since we will always compare him to john paul but bennie is actually becoming quite abnoxious.

It is not that Ratzinger was a member of the Hitler Youth that bothers me it is the fact that he is still a member.

This truly appalling man is responsible for so much of the suffering in the world just like his predesessor was in his turn.

Of course Jews were not allowed to join the Hitler Youth - as for comminists in Germany - I doubt very much they were exempt from membership.

They were exempt from membership because of their restricted membership of the "being in a concentration camp club" made it impossible for them to attend the meetings.
