Yes I play the guitar, yes I play soccer, never learned to ice skate and I abhor sitting down watching other people dance at Ceilidhs when i could be dancing to the sound of the fiddle myself. Lofty comments??? whatever.
I am out on nothing, I have proven that sucking up images is a very poor substitute for experiencing the matter oneself. Its a ...[text shortened]... ial and does not even approach the experience of the real thing. Its you who are out on a limb.

"Well, sir, I'm not sure. Maybe you have nothing else to say?"

Point 1: YES, it is a given that one CAN NOT get even close to the same experience by looking at images! That should be obvious to everybody!
Point 2: but NO, that is NOT why it is "not OK", but absolutely OK (even if second best) for those who cannot afford the real experience (like climbing Mt Everest).
Why is it so hard for you to simply admit that?? It will not lose you any honour, if that is what you are afraid of - that is long gone.

OK dude, I get it. Some people are wine snobs. Then there's you.
1. licking the sweet shop glass is not the same as buying a bag of jelly babies and eating them
2. looking desirously at other people eating jelly babies is not the same as buying a bag for yourself and eating them
3. to spend your time licking the sweet shop window and watching other people eat jelly babies as a substitute is a form of self delusion.
4. delusion is not good, it robs one of the happiness and fulfilment of eating jelly babies for oneself.

If you think that looking at pictures is ok then fine, but don't tell me it comes even close or is comparable to actually climbing the mountain itself, because its not. It reminds me of those people who come to Scotland, drive around and look at it from the back of a car and say, I've seen it. They may have seen it but they have not experienced it.
Now if you are substituting one for the other when you are perfectly capable of experiencing something then its a form of self delusion and is clearly not OK. Why ? because you are missing out on the actual experience and the fulfilment and happiness that comes with that and instead exist in an artificial virtual world of fantasy and make belief which cannot bring the same sense of happiness and fulfilment as the real thing. Can it?
Please do not make the argument personal, its the traits of a weak and beggarly argument.

Stop looking at Christmas cards when you should be out catching the snow on your tongues.
Give it up!

No wait...
It's like licking a candy store window because the merchant won't let you in.
No, wait...
It's like watching a football match because it's fun.
