If you think that looking at pictures is ok then fine, but don't tell me it comes even close or is comparable to actually climbing the mountain itself, because its not. It reminds me of those people who come to Scotland, drive around and look at it from the back of a car and say, I've seen it. They may have seen it but they have not experienced it.
Now if you are substituting one for the other when you are perfectly capable of experiencing something then its a form of self delusion and is clearly not OK. Why ? because you are missing out on the actual experience and the fulfilment and happiness that comes with that and instead exist in an artificial virtual world of fantasy and make belief which cannot bring the same sense of happiness and fulfilment as the real thing.
It is clear that you can't handle two points at once. Let's try them one at a time.
In your quote above, you maintain that looking at pictures is ALWAYS inferior to the actual experience . I don't think many people would disagree with you: visiting a pub in Scotland is probably more fun than looking at a picture of it. Same with climbing a mountain. No problem there! In fact, I think we can all agree on that point without repeating it for the umpteenth time.
However, where you make the big jump, in logic as well as in reason, is to say that THEREFORE one should never look at pictures but ALWAYS, ONLY do the actual thing.
When it was pointed out to you that that is NOT ALWAYS POSSIBLE (i.e. I will never be able to climb Mt E), to you it follows that I may then also never look at a picture of Mt E. That is patently absurd.
Now you can draw your own corollary with pornography.
