Because I am an atheist and I stopped praying when I lost my Christian faith.

The OP question is: Have any of the agnostics or atheists on this forum ever had their lack [or loss] of belief tested?

No one has addressed this question, but that's OK. I have started many a thread that posed a question that didn't get any traction.

Because in a desperate situation that they’re helpless to affect, they’ll realize they could be wrong and their concern and love for another human being will trump their vanity and “principled atheism.”

Intelligent people realize their feelings may be wrong and that the existence of God cannot be disproven.

Atheists apparently believe one or both.

There was no "vanity" in that hospital room. There was no lack of "concern" for my wife.
