Joseph stated that ' "Paganism" gets the THREE from the scriptures.'
I was merely pointing out that 'the three' predates the bible.
Yes, the number three predates the New Testament.
Okay, seriously. When the arguments came in church history concerning Christ's Person, whether He was fully God or fully man or not fully neither, and such things, the need arose for the Christians to speak SOMETHING to defend the Gospel.
In that backround the word "trinity" came about. I think it was primarily a defense against attacks on the Person of Christ.
There is no question to many of us that God's nature is mysterious from Genesis on.
Augustine ( A.D. 354-430 )
"It was lawful through the mere necessity of speaking and reasoning to say three Persons, not because Scripture says it, but because Scripture does not contradict it: whereas, if we're to say three Gods, Scripture would contradict it ..."
"What therefore remains, except that we confess that these terms sprang from the necessity of speaking, when copious reasoning was required against the devices or errors of the heretics."
-Removed-The world has two saviours. Your church doctrine has led you astray:
But hath in due times manifested his word through preaching, which is committed unto me according to the commandment of God our Saviour; To Titus, mine own son after the common faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour. (Titus 1:3-4 KJV)
But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life. (Titus 3:4-7 KJV)
God our Father and our Saviour
Jesus Christ His Son and also our Saviour.
Two separate and distinct entities.
God is greater and above all things
Jesus is subservient to God.
-Removed-If God sent Jesus as a saviour then God is the saviour. God was first and Jesus came after, sent by God. Therefore that Isaiah verse does not conflict with Paul describing God as a saviour and Jesus as another.
The facts as I see it is God is a Savour and Jesus is also a saviour, and they are both separate and distinct.
