"If I would believe in God, I would say 'oh my God' now. Or maybe I wouldn't, because I might think that would be a sin. Anyway, I don't believe in God, so saying 'oh my God' wouldn't make sense at all. Basically, what I am trying to say is that I am startled."

I don't believe in God. Therefore, when I'm surprised or suddenly startled, it's odd for me to go: "My God!!", or "Sweet Jesus!!!", isn't it?

And this would be most odd: "I'm startled!!!"

    Ideas. Anyone?
Perhaps make up your own word.

    "Gnaf", maybe, or "shmingles".

I've thought about using "Gottlieb Daimler!" as a replacement curse. Haven't actually put into practice yet, though.

    I tend to use:

    Meatballs! (FSM)
    Curse the void!
    Sheesh!
    Eek!
In the name of all that is denied!
    Drokk! (2000 AD)
    Oh Grud (also 2000AD)

Though obviously some are easier to get away with than others.

    "Eek"

    "Oh Grud"

I like those... Especially the first is very descriptive. It says everything. ๐Ÿ™‚

Its a cultural thing, its a sign of how pervasive christianity is in our
lives, has nothing to do with belief or non-belief, just advertising.

Well it would be 'motherf asterisk asterisk asterisk asterisk asterisk'
    but seems kind of longish.

You could shorten it to "motherfasterisk".

Or "Mosk", but I guess that might sound religious too.

    Chrysler!
Sweet Ford! (Or: "Oh, Ford help me!" )
    Daimler!

    It's a bit pro-capitalistic (which I'm not) but it will do. ๐Ÿ™‚
