Apparently, General Duke was a 'methodical and experienced tactician' (which I rather like) but also as an 'egotistical and xenophobic man' which is not quite my cup of tea.
The army in the Starcraft story, the army that General Duke was part of. It was an army of Southern American rednecks, most of whom were released from prison to fight for the Terran "confederacy." Duke, as will as the leader Arcturus Mengsk and others like them, were more educated and aristocratic. Giving their redneck accent a little charm.
I do love rednecks. So I have a special liking to characters like Duke and Mengsk.

Originally posted by @ghost-of-a-dukeI underestimated the Texas sun and planted new grass in my backyard several weeks ago. Every time I step out back to have a smoke, I get a nice view of my handiwork. A huge blighted patch of withering, burning, baby grass. I guess that makes me a blighty redneck.

It is not the quantity but the quality of knowledge which determines the mind's dignity.
