Vile and absurd.

Vile and absurd.

Spirituality

After reading the following news story I could not resist commenting.

This is the only way to describe false religion which conducts itself in this vile and absurd manner.

Why hundreds and thousand of Muslims dont leave Islam is beyond sensibility.

Todays news................A Sudanese court has sentenced a woman to hang for apostasy - the abandonment of her religious faith - after she married a Christian man.

Amnesty International condemned the sentence, handed down by a judge in Khartoum, as "appalling and abhorrent".

Local media report the sentence on the woman, who is pregnant, would not be carried out for two years after she had given birth.

Sudan has a majority Muslim population, which is governed by Islamic law.

"We gave you three days to recant but you insist on not returning to Islam. I sentence you to be hanged to death," the judge told the woman, AFP reports.

Western embassies and rights groups had urged Sudan to respect the right of the pregnant woman to choose her religion.

The judge also sentenced the woman to 100 lashes after convicting her of adultery - because her marriage to a Christian man was not valid under Islamic law.

I agree with Amnesty International and the Western embassies about it being "appalling and abhorrent". It doesn't even seem to be in accordance with the law as it stands as she was and always has been a Christian. Let's hope a higher court in Sudan overturns the judgement. That would save Meriam's life and ~ more importantly, perhaps ~ set a precedent for cases like these. Much of the Middle East is blighted by such ugly cultural and political backwardness. A future paradigm for the practice of Islamic faith is to be found elsewhere in the world: not in places like Sudan.

Each time any of those death sentences mandated in the Old Testament was carried out for ludicrous "offences" laid out in books like Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy, it was an instance of "evil personified" too. "Cultural context" "historical perspective" and "religious certainty of belief" can take a hike.

Most religions are capable of going this way.
It is shocking, but inevitable when a modern day
government bases its laws on centuries old religious dogma.

I believe sonhouse would say it must have something to do with the fact that males are valued at 50 shekels of silver and females only 30 shekels.

No, they would kill a man for leaving Islam also. This is not a gender thing.

This is just cruel Sharia laws in action.

Although the whipping thing would not be done to the man, because OBVIOUSLY it is the woman's fault for daring the man to have sex with her....

I'm asking because I'm unsure, but if someone is born into a "Muslim"
family are they not thought of as Muslim, so if they turned to any other
faith later in life that would mean they could be accused of as having left
the faith? I don't know if that is true, and even if it is that doesn't mean
that this woman fit that too.

You have some examples that Christians today are carrying out OT law?
