Seemed to me that in order to become one with Brahman one must adopt jnana yoga, though the other yogas may be useful as stepping stones. I asked a Swami and he concurred.
Jnana yoga is the stepping stone, because when you become situated in knowledge through the process of Jnana, you realize with the knowledge youve aquired that the goal of life is to love God with pure devotion, ....and since bhakti is the path of devotion it must be the top most.
Vedanta is full of jnana, in fact the principles are so lofty that that they are always directing the student towards Bhakti.
If one follows Jnana yoga, and doesnt move into Bhakti, then the Jnana is not serving its purpose.
The svami you speak of is an impersonalist, and merging with Brahman you can do, but that is not the higheast truth.
The highest truth is to have a loving relationship with God on a personal basis, and in the spiritual dimension there are unlimited spiritual activities to engage in this loving relationship.
