OK. I'm going to take on the rôle of Devil's Advocate in this thread and assume not only the existence of God, but that He created the Universe in six days some 10,000 years ago.

I have a simple question for which there can be no evidential text to refer to. At least as far as I am aware.

WHY?

This isn't a trick question. There is no agenda. No Creationist-bashing, no making fun of anyone. Just sheer fun. Just opinion. No knee-jerk firing from the hip.

Why did God create the Universe?

Opinions please.......

The same answer as to why does a dog lick his balls.
Because he can.

Why would the question of "why" interest you.

By an act of uncoerced will for His own pleasure and glory because of a desire to share His life with other rational beings.

Don't know. I was just chatting with some friends and the subject came up. Stopped me in my metaphorical tracks.

Thank you gb, a thoughtful and intelligible answer, as always.

If you found that intelligible, perhaps you might care to explain it to the rest of us? I can never seem to understand what Grampy says. He claims it is because we have no common ground.

For a rather cynical view: If you have the time and interest and have not done so, I suggest that you read Mark Twain's The Mysterious Stranger, particularly chapter 2, starting at the paragraph that begins with "Soon there came a youth strolling toward us through the trees." The relevant story begins a few paragraphs later with "A kind of awe..."

God created to produce a few things, and like when we make metal that
we are going to use to hold up buildings, it goes though various forms of
purifying processes and testing, so that we know when we build a building
that is several stories tall it will not fall due to metal being unable to
handle the stress.

The purifying processes will also show what is good and evil, what is good
and bad, and the truth of it all will be revealed. Having it revealed is not
for God's sake since He would know, but for creation itself, who had not
God put up the process the only thing creation would have to trust would
have been God's Word, now every part of creation will see what happens
when good and evil are thrown together and what happens when both have
their ways.

"Just sheer fun." -Pianoman1'. Apparently the man enjoys the spirited give and take of relaxed conversation with friends.

I know. Just can't help myself. Do you have an opinions about the post apart from saying it's a dumb question. Dumb? Explain.......
