I've heard that joke a lot but it's doesn't make much historical sense. Yes, German's invasion of the USSR in WWII failed, but in WWI, Germany did kind of "win" in Russia. The treaty of Brest-Litovsk was quite draconian in favor of Germany.

The other great failed Russian invasions, those of Napoleon and Charles XII, we not German invasions.

I can't see England going all the way. With the negative mindset they had in the last game, they don't even think they are World Beaters.

Croatia seem to be the strongest on that side of the tree, but Sweden are a dark horse as well....

Dark horses are Belgium and England both have not really played a real game yet. A pub team would have beat tunisia and Panama

I work in a bookies and a 'psychic' placed a bet on an England/France final.

Why? Because she had a vision of a lion and the statue of liberty. Lions on England's shirt and Eiffel built the statue of liberty, ie the French connection.

The odds showed that Japan only had a 10% chance of beating Belgium. Now it's 70 minutes in Belgium 0-2 Japan. Hooray for Japan!
