I grew up playing rugby and us Aussie's use to have back in those days the same mentality that it is was sissy to play soccer? but that is before we realised how skillful it actually is.
so there is still hope for you to change your view!!!

It is quite an interesting point of discussion about teams doing well in their own continent. We can understand why they'd do well in their own countries, but beyond that, I can only speculate. Could it be the relative ease with which supporters from nearby countries can travel to games? Familiar infrastructures and climates? Doesn't surprise me though. There are loads of Portuguese here, as the article already stated. I'm acquainted with at least two Portuguese families, one of which overlaps a part of my family. They're coming out of the walls!
