I was happy with this Grob win in Game 2946193 but after winning his queen for 2 minor pieces early on I found it very difficult to break through and eventually resorted to 2 exchage sacrifices for a couple more pawns and penetration with my queen.

Is there a less drastic way I could have won this.

Come on, you just beat one of the most overrated players on rhp, his rating is about 200-300 pts too high

I whooped him both of our games, but I let him go in one because I just hate the 1 day time out.

I'm probably 200 points too high as well.

Sustaining it is requiring an enormous effort and lots of beating up on 1500 players to get 1 or 2 rating points a time.

Then tired and lacking concentration I blunder badly and lose 30 rating points in 1 game.

Like this Game 3278362 - still in progress I know but my opponent doesn't want me to resign (I'll give him a few moves then let him down) Did you like my brilliant exchange sacrifice on move 24? For some reason I overlooked that the N recapture covered f1 and prevented my amazing mate threat.

or this Game 3278346 - I'm playing on hoping for a cheapo but really I should resign now. Again from a strong position I play 17. ... Rxg7 but hang on what about NXR (What an incredibly difficult move for him to find). My excuse I thought I was fiddling on the analysis board but thats a feeble excuse really isn't it?

I have to disagree with you. He's an excellent player, but in your example thats a thematic tournament in a position completely different style than what he usually plays.

    Why exactly?

    Say this is game...
    1 g4 d5
    2 Bg2 c6
    3 c4 Bxg4

What does White have to compensate loss of pawn?

After 2. ... c6 white plays 3. h3 which is better than 3. c4 in this move order.

If black wants to play 2. Bxg4 he will be destroyed.

Black CAN play 2...Bxg4 and get better position. I have posted analysis in that line in on thread in Only Chess section.

btw. Yesterday I have been played Grob in OTB (that was last round and as i have been played that tournament badly I had nothing to lose) and won 🙂

As with any gambit black is taking a risk accepting it unless he knows exactly what he is doing.

Of course. But they are not obliged to know nothing 😀
