What a load of crap. If these are anything near approaching the best 200 songs of the 90s I'll eat my radio. Marilyn Manson's 'sweet dreams' wasn't even better than the original, let alone one of the best songs of the 90s.

Please don't call it CFNY. It hasn't been CFNY for many, many years and any semblance to the old and great CFNY is purely coincidental.

As for the list, it's a shame they only let you vote for the songs they've chosen (i.e. have mp3s for to put in the rotation). Not much of a poll, if you ask me.

I think it's indicative of the state of radio in N. America. Corporations went on a big buying spree toward the end of the 90's and bought up most of the independant stations. The independants used to play good music regardless of genre/record label in order to draw listeners so that the station could charge advertisers for commercials.

Now though, since radio stations are just part of the larger music delivery system whereby the label/station/music store are all owned by the same company, the large corporation views their radio stations as tools to get bands on their labels exposure to drive sales.

So, now we see radio stations playing top 40 songs 7,8,9 times a day instead of the 1 or 2 when the station was independant.

The list, I think, reflects this contraction of the music industry's exposure to radio.

People who care about lists enough to complain are funny.

One space for "Other" is not sufficient. Besides, they'll probably just ignore it. 😠

I agree -- a good countdown should let people submit whatever they want, and just go with whatever makes the top 200 - in this case, excluding only those songs that didn't come out in the 1990's

The problem here is that the radio station is afraid that something might get on the list that not part of their "format". I mean, what if a country song or a rap song ended up making the list?

But this is what makes legitimate countdowns fun. There's always a few really odd things that make it, especially at the bottom. Listeners don't always conform to the narrow parameters of what the station would prefer to play.

I don't think there were 200 decent songs recorded in the 90s. Or even the 80s, 90s and 00s combined...

And I think 60s and 70s rock is overrated, especially by grandpas like yourself.

Now hold on there. sonny. There hasn't been anything approaching songs like Gimme Shelter and You can't always get what you want in the 80's and beyond.

Please...Rolling stones,Beatles....they had their time.

My personal tastes have anything by Tool or Primus prime candidates for the best songs of the 90's, however their are so many more

Tom Waits recorded at least 20 decent songs from 80 to 00.
In fact his album "Real Gone" from 2004 has some classics on it as well
