a very rich business leader with a great deal of political influence (particularly with reference to individuals who benefited from the privatization of state-run industries after the collapse of the Soviet Union).
"it seems more than a coincidence that former employees, advisors, and allies of the billionaire oligarch have been parachuted into such positions"
This do ...[text shortened]... Our oligarchs are good oligarchs. Do you think that Musk can get us to Mars.....Before China??!!?!

@wildgrass saidI disagree. Y’all are so obsessed with Rich rich people that you find them automatically corrupt. Take that out of the equation, and you have people who have legally acquired money and are developing their businesses with that money. So pick one road to go down, the one that Oligarchs are illegal, nasty horrible people, or, businessmen who have taken advantage of everything they can to grow their business and create jobs. Why is this so difficult?

It is difficult because it is actually impossible for liberals to think rationally, logically and with common sense. The emotion is overwhelming.

@AverageJoe1 saidWildgrass,,, I am reposting this because you did not respond to it the first time. It makes very clear points, and it would be nice to have a debate about something so clear. You just ignored it. Sonhouse does not like for people to ignore his million questions. I am asking you not to ignore my one question. I frankly forgotten what it was, but the paragraph speaks for itself
The money is not made available 'for an oligarch to enrich himself'. Please rewrite this sentence in proper context, while the oligarchs company manufactures stuff like crazy (like your new Vespa and your wife's golf club that never misses).
Oh, and to build data centers, for god sakes. So, who is going to build data centers so that your tech-savy son can center ...[text shortened]... where will the data centers come from, and why do you care if people get rich from their 'projects'?
Your bright son teaming with ideas has to have a data center to go work at, to be successful and to make us all successful with his ideas.
@AverageJoe1 saidThere's no problem with a company making and profiting from women's golf clubs. That's capitalism.

When a company asks taxpayers to make the golf club while letting the company keep the profits, then we have problems.
Elon musk has done the latter for 10+ years now through govt subsidized EV and space exploration. Now he has an office in the West Wing where he wants to eliminate the same incentives he benefited from to squash his competitors. That's an oligarch. Technically legal, adds economic growth overall, but incredibly corrupt and unhealthy.
No one should ever defend the behavior of an oligarch. You should be ashamed.
@AverageJoe1 saidNo oligarch ever built a data center or anything else.

@AverageJoe1 saidHi average
So here is Martin, who curiously hides his country, a country which I am sure would be shytte-out-of-luck if our country kept our stuff at home. You see, little feller, every country needs the United States of America. You, and even the most liberal of our members here, know that, but would never admit it.
Pitiful to write a post slamming a country, without listing ...[text shortened]... I bet we have more choices in our country than you do. As a matter of fact, I am sure that we do.

@Metal-Brain saidWere you rooting for endless wars?
We voted for Trump because the secret service conspired to assassinate Trump. That is why we knew he was right for a second term. Were you rooting for endless wars?
Not at all; I just fear the lunatic with cripple world economies
@AverageJoe1 saidYou think Jaden Smith is a “genius”?
I will hardly attempt to paraphrase this article. It is what it is. Rich people are who they are. Geniuses and successful men and women in business are who they are. So, shall we start with taking all their money (Bernie Sanders idea) or do we turn them lose to make this country great. You just saw how it can NOT be great, dont want that again, do we.
@wildgrass saidThen, can you back up a few years for when this might have germinated with musk, and tell us the way that you wish it would have gone down? Keep in mind before you answer that his space program would have not even left the ground yet. So are we gonna turn him loose to go to Mars or restrict him with regulations?

You are aware I am sure that this is an age of pioneers. Would you have shackled Ford or Rockefeller? Pioneers? Trains, planes and automobiles? Whatever your reasons, and there has to be some since you have gotten in this deep, the question will remain… Why.?

@no1marauder saidJesus. Is that you , Marauder? Ok , I am in the business of making those plastic bags that your wife puts in the trash cans. I crank them out by the millions. Do you think I could send a few hundred workers out to make plastic bags that your wife put in the trash cans?
No oligarch ever built a data center or anything else.
Workers did.
Unbelievable.
But wait, you are saying not plastic bags, but data centers. Hello. Is that you marauder?
@AThousandYoung saidWho is he? As he got something to do with the discussion?

Let’s say I have a big boat that I bought just for fun and it sits in dry dock , holds maybe 500 people. A bunch of pitiful wretches are fleeing Hitler, looking for a safe place in the Americas during the war.. I go down to the dock, pay some men to drop the boat into the water, and then pay another 20 men to take the boat to Europe and pick up these people. The boat goes to Charlston where they find a new life.and they all get off in the Americas.
About whom are accolades written in the morning papers? The owner does not even know how to start this boat.

Libs remark a lot here about the rich guys in the administration, whatever. No matter what your thoughts, this short article will put a positive spin on this very subject, before everyone goes haywire about the horrible rich businessmen.
