It’s the states job to ensure that kids are educated to certain levels of literacy, numeracy and so forth, it’s not the states job to build an alternative reality by censoring what kids can learn about their own historical and current realities. Slavery happened and it was an horrific crime against humanity, racism is a reality that a lot of kids have to face in the present but the new Republican movement is intent on airbrushing historical and current realities that do not fit its own electoral rubric.

The news is full of examples of local school boards and GOP state legislatures restricting information about post civil war mistreatment of black people, non-white ethnicities and how they have been and are treated in the U.S. and how LBGQT individuals are treated. They are whitewashing history books and even math books and banning books. The excuse is that anything that might make a student or their parents feel uncomfortable should not be in the curriculum. In the past, ultra conservatives in this forum and elsewhere have expressed concern about Sharia Law inserting itself into US law. I and others are far more concerned about harsh Judeo/Christian law being adopted. Pilgrims fled England for religious freedom. The Founding Fathers clearly wanted a separation of church and state.
I could cut and past numerous articles but I have been criticized for soing so.

So when you say that we should not teach porn or pole dancing to children, tell us how you decide from one subject another. How do you decide what truly Should Not be taught.

Are you equating teaching black history to teaching pornography? Really? Schools should be teaching honest, truthful U.S. history. They should be preventing children from cruel bullying behavior towards others who are different from them for whatever reason. Parents who wish to teach their kids that one race is inferior to another or that LBGQT individuals are evil, need to send their kids to a private school paid for without tax dollars or homeschool them. Ted Cruze's 14 year old daughter recently attempted suicide. Living wage is difficult to determine due to differences in family size and geographic location. The cost of living varies throughout the U.S. Just as government supports corporations with subsidies, families are supported by public education and health care through the Affordable Care Act. However, there are too few supports for working families. Childcare costs are extremely high. In other developed countries, the government provides for childcare and healthcare. When capitalism works properly, workers can organize to fight for higher wages and benefits. Capitalism is working when wages are pushed higher by worker shortages. A healthy, well educated population leads to less mental and physical health issues, less violence and a more productive workforce I would think businesses would support this concept.
No one is suggesting exposing children to porn. If you think that the LGBTQ community is pornograhpic, you are showing your abysmal ignorance. Religious dogma should not be taught in public schools. That doesn't mean children cannot be exposed to the basic tenets of major religions. Much of western art, music, architecture and literature is tied up in Judeo/Christian/Islamic traditions. How do you discuss history without talking about religion? That, however, is totally different from teaching and promoting a specific religion. Frankly, I think all of this is way too complex for you to grasp. You strike me as not being well read nor very intelligent.

While we wait, answer this. Someone just railed about 'living wage', for a single mom waitress, with 3 kids. If she is paid enough to support herself and 3 children (I suspect a living wage), how much should be paid to an unmarried girl exactly like her with no children and no debt, no financial problems, working side by side with her?

the list of books (that o posted here and you ignored) banned by Missouri for various reasons included books of paintings by renown artists. Works of art by Michelangelo or Da Vinci and other classics. So the answer to that question may very well be a yes depending on what uptight frigid religious zealot who does the labeling.
