Drunkeness, drug use, gambling, prostiution, sloth, watching Jerry Springer, etc.
I was right their with you until you put gambling in their with drunkeness and sloth.

I've made my living the past 15 yrs from playing poker .. it's hard, but it's fair.
True, i've busted a bunch of people, but they all had day jobs.

The gaming industry is the fastest growing in America

Nobody can show you that because it can't solve the worlds problems. Unbridled Capitalism would be a disaster. Even those of us that are smart and hard working would fall prey to the bigger fish. There has to be a balance. I don't know how this is acheived but I think we need to allow folks a reasonable opportunity to acheive and better their standard of living while at the same time providing adequate social safety nets and in general a shared responsibility to keep a civil and compassionate society. There's got to be a way to acheive this balance without resorting to Communism (ouch!) or unbridled Capatalism (Yikes!!)

Now you're talking my language. I totally agree with you on this one. 🙂

Addition: Minus the capitalism, mind you. 😛

Interesting... You are a sensible american, a positive representative of your country: unlike dsr, Scipio2, Jammer, etc...

So can armed robbery or selling drugs to children.
But you make money, so surely you think its good... Unless you think money should only be made in some circumstances, which seems to contradict most of what you've written on this thread about getting money, screw the poor... but obviously, selling drugs to children is a step too far for you.

Oh, I don't know -- perhaps because it leads to the ruination of families? Or it could be that organized crime is always associated with it. Or in America, where the Native Americans have set up casinos, they aren't content to count their boodle; instead, they use it to influence candidates and the outcomes of U.S. elections.

How far you Brits have fallen. Once you gave the world the King James Bible, the Magna Carta and men of great renown like Lord Nelson and Sir Winston Churchill. Sadly, the ones I’ve met on RHP are a bunch of mewling, petulant children crying for their wet nurses. Where’s that stiff upper lip and resolve the English were once so famous for? Alas, Britain is no longer so great.
Yeah we used to have an empire including your little country, in the good old days, but we decide to be nice and give you independance.
And look where that got us!

Ah so progress is possible!

Plus who would have thought that a Swede and someone of Norwegian descent could agree on something?

Thanks. I never would have thought I'd ever see a Brit combine the words sensible and American in the same sentence. My work here is done.

And I doubt either gambling or porn would be significantly affected by the government signing Kyoto. See? Your fastest growing industries are non-polluting ones.
