I suppose a very common answer will be The Lord of the Rings series, which is a good choice. But I was always partial to Aspirin's Thieves' World anthology.

I loved that series. I thought the last couple of books weren't as good as the first five and especially the first four. The first four books of that series are some of my favourite books period. Especially 2 to 4.

Oops. The thing with that is I read the books straight through. I find when I do that I get bored by the end of any series. Same thing is happening right now as I read The Wheel of Time books. That could just be because there are lots of long boring parts in those ones though. I mean cmon, up to 11 books.

In some of the books nothing really happens but I feel compelled to finish this series because I have already invested so much time into it.

I am on book 8. It sucks though because there are tons of other books I want to read but it will be a while because I am getting bored and reading slower.

Great question. Unfortunately, I don't think I can pick one.

Here's a few that I like...

Lord of the Rings (J. R. R. Tolkien)
Chronicles of Thomas Covenant (Stephen Donaldson)
Invasion Earth (L. Ron Hubbard)
Foundation, including the Robot Series (Asimov)
Dune (Frank Herbert & others)
Xanth (Piers Anthony)
Incantations of Immortality (Piers Anthony)
Tarzan of the Apes (Edgar Rice Burroughs) - First 2 books are incredible.

Later.

I used to read the Bard's Tale books when I was in middle school. There was only like two of them but they were pretty good. Mercedes Lackey I do believe wrote them.

Wow we have a bit in common. I have Cell sitting on my book case unread as well.

I try to read most series all the way through because if I don't I feel like I might forget crucial plot points or I'll forget some things about characters.

In the Wheel of Time books I forget enough stuff anyways because there are way too many characters and the author almost never reminds you who someone is, even the minor characters. All the strange names don't help either.

Did you read The Talisman by Stephen King and Peter Straub? I liked that book quite a bit.
