He had other choices, and his choice has been roundly criticized by Trump and others. They had an opportunity to add more Republicans to the committee, but they wanted to retain the ability to claim the committee was partisan.

Complete control we'd have a ban on guns, a wealth tax, an infrastructure plan, free health care, much higher taxes, and a bunch of kids running around with a $100,000 check to pay for their tuition at Harvard.
We're definitely not there yet - thankfully.
