Wars may not be won, costs remain high and the bond market may yet blow up, but hey y'all have a new lake!
Let the celebrations begin!

Wait…there’s more. He hinted at name changes for the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. OMG America…ok the U S A, is taking over the world’s waters.😲

I like many of Trump's policies, such as secure borders, bringing manufacturing back to the US, etc, but stuff like this is just so petty and stupid. It's a shame.

What cracks me up is the pettiness of it all.

trump obviously thinks he’s making a grand gesture, but the rest of the world are laughing in his face. What a moron!

As if anybody in the world is actually adopting his changes! Yeah… google maybe… for Americans… it’s only going to isolate Americans abroad even more. I mean, most of them don’t know Dutch from Deutsch or how to get from Antwerp to Anvers, let alone if they’re the only people in the world calling something a totally different name.

Idiots.

Meet the new lake,
Same as the old lake.

“ War is peace.
Freedom is slavery.
Ignorance is strength.”

Lake Ontario is Lake America.
As the American public is being decoupled from from the mental map of the world and society they used to share with their neighbors, that ensures that debate and seeking an understanding of common problems becomes more difficult. When you give in to NewSpeak you can only digest information given to you by an administration that have isolated you from reason.

@Suzianne

It’ll get a footnote in history as Trump’s Quagmire.

Two-and-a-half more years of this dumbing down of society before Joe, SH76, Sleepyguy and all the other fools wil undoubtedly once again vote for the even worse follow-up Republican (remember how things couldn’t possibly get any dumber with Bush Jr.?) while hopefully just enough other people vote D.

In a similar vein, but not fiction:

"I have always thought it was a most valuable trait to recognize reality and not to pursue delusions. But when I now think over my life up to and including the years of imprisonment, there was no period in which I was free of delusory notions. .... The departure from reality, which was visibly spreading like a contagion, was no peculiarity of the National Socialist [Nazi] regime. But in normal circumstances people who turn their backs on reality are soon set straight by the mockery and criticism of those around them, which makes them aware that they have lost credibility. In the Third Reich there were no such correctives, especially for those who belonged to the upper stratum. On the contrary, every self-deception was multiplied as in a hall of distorting mirrors, becoming a repeatedly confirmed picture of a fantastical dream world which no longer bore any relationship to the grim world outside."

--Albert Speer, Inside the Third Reich, 1970.

What maga-acolytes don't register is how grim the world is inside the delusion, constantly having to cow down to the manias of der Führer.

Who cares?
It's a lake.

Other countries are constantly changing names of cities, towns and even their own countries and possibly lake renaming is in their too.

If people are sweating this, you should enroll in an anger management class or learn breathing exercises.

@moonbus
You are right, this is only footnote stuff, probably not worth wasting ink on.
Some of the other things, that have real effects on real people, much more worth the time.

Who cares, indeed. Why should Trump care what it's called? A U.S. president has no authority to rename that body of water, no more so than the Gulf of Mexico or the Strait of Hormuz.

He's just peeved because Canada won't cow down to his demands. He's throwing a childish tantrum; we've seen this so many times before, and too many people acquiesce in his demands just to avoid another tantrum. It's high time somebody stood up to this spoilt brat and told him, "NO!" Obviously, his parents never did, and that is how it has come to this. Kudos to Canada. At least they have some self-respect. No one who cows down to Trump has any shred of respect or self-respect left.

Yeah, like bombing a school in Iran. The war won't be over when Trump declares victory and goes home; it will be over when the last grieving family in Iran has taken revenge on some American, somewhere, some when.
