Norway and Sweden switched from driving on the left to driving on the right on September 3, 1967. It wasn’t the end of civilization. America could have gone metric any time, and it would have been easier and cheaper last century. The advantages far outweigh the temporary jolt of the transition.
The US has a massive population and they are happy with feet and inches. Nobody is changing to suit Europeans.
