With Russia busy in Ukraine we can risk war with China now.

I wonder how US would react if China poured advanced weaponry into Cuba, built a military base to protect Cuba, and started patrolling the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean.
Russia already tried that.

Ask Khrushchev how that turned out.

That one didn't start with Chruschov. There aren't many things Metal understands, but at least he understands that one better than you. (Of course, as a Russian, he would.)

No, that started with the USA putting nukes in Turkey, and not liking the Russian tit-for-tat.

Why else would Pelosi make such an expensive trip if the goal is not to piss off China?

You don't even know why she is there. You are clueless.

Maybe to tell Duchess' favourite genocidal dictatorship to stop pissing the rest of the world off?

This was already discussed earlier in the thread:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2022/08/03/pelosi-tsmc-meeting-lunch-semiconductors/

Pelosi dined with Taiwan computer chip executives during her brief visit

This is about semiconductor chips, which rule technology. In other words it's about money and power.

China warns of a possible military response to Pelosi's potential Taiwan trip

China once again warned House Speaker Nancy Pelosi against visiting Taiwan.
The Chinese Ministry of Defense signaled there could be a military response.
"If the US insists on taking its own course, the Chinese military will never sit idly by," a spokesperson said.
I like Pelosi but, seems to me, that this trip
was the wrong time to show solidarity w/Taiwan.

Couldn't she just call them? I would have been a lot cheaper than the millions spent to protect her on that trip.

If we made semiconductor chips here in the USA wouldn't that be better?
China will get Taiwan eventually anyway.

If Nixon can go to China, then Pelosi sure as hell can go to Taiwan. China can go pound sand.

Though, to be honest, this is really the story of two boys fighting in a sandbox over who has the bigger dick, with Taiwan the two-inch ruler lying on the ground.

@Soothfast
China is acting out now, launching missiles into the Sea of Japan and flying jets in formation. I don't think anyone is worried China is going to immediately invade in force, looks to me like saber rattling, a petulant display hoping to sow fear.
Having said that, back when Nix went there, China was not the world power it is now.

These things are true.

Pelosi is, of course, not the first US politician to visit Taiwan, and this is not the first time China has had a temper-tantrum over happenings in that area of the world. Just a few years ago it was rattling its sabers over some specks of dirt in the South China Sea. I guess its military is still busy building that artificial island.

exactly what business did pelosi conduct?

First Biden pledges to defend Taiwan against China, now Pelosi actually gets China to threaten military action.

Good god. China and Russia have already started planning an alliance.
Par for the course. When did the people of Taiwan ever get to vote for the status of their own country?

China will get Taiwan eventually anyway. 2048 I heard. Some sort of agreement, right?

Too bad Duchess was banned. She could probably tell me all about it.
