Par for the course. When did the people of Taiwan ever get to vote for the status of their own country?
Since their ancestors founded the Republic of China in 1912.

This was already discussed earlier in the thread:

Pelosi dined with Taiwan computer chip executives during her brief visit

This is about semiconductor chips, which rule technology. In other words it's about money and power.
That would be about right, Viv.

2 charts show how much the world depends on Taiwan for semiconductors

Taiwan’s outsized role in chipmaking has come under the spotlight as a global shortage of semiconductors forced several automakers to halt production.

Countries including the U.S. and Germany reached out to Taiwan to help alleviate bottlenecks in the production of chips. The shortage was a result of increased demand for electronics during the Covid-19 pandemic, and was exacerbated by former President Donald Trump’s trade war with China.

Taiwan dominates the foundry market, or the outsourcing of semiconductor manufacturing. Its contract manufacturers together accounted for more than 60% of total global foundry revenue last year, according to data by Taipei-based research firm TrendForce.

Much of Taiwan’s dominance can be attributed to Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co or TSMC, the world’s largest foundry that counts major technology firms such as Apple, Qualcomm and Nvidia as its clients. TSMC accounted for 54% of total foundry revenue globally last year, TrendForce data showed.

Beijing has suggested that US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-California) Taiwan visit may have been part of a ploy by Washington aimed at creating a pretext to deploy more of its military to the region.

In a statement made during his visit to Bangladesh and published on Sunday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said that “there are signs that the United States is trying to repeat its old tricks.” The diplomat clarified that Washington has a history of “creating a problem first, and then using it to realize its own strategic plans” elsewhere in the world.

It’s looking much more like Beijing jumped on the opportunity of Pelosi’s visit to do what they were going to do anyway, namely, pile on the pressure for Taiwan, carry out an exercise in blockading Taiwan and the Taiwan straits, and for Xi specifically show off his hardman credentials before the CCP meeting in the autumn where he hopes to be made emperor for life.

How much did it cost the American taxpayer to pay for Pelosi's security for the visit in person instead of making a phone call or a Skype virtual meeting?

It was obviously to create an excuse for a military buildup by the USA.

This is the second time you've brought this up. You realize such trips are made by world leaders and ambassadors all the time, right? Why pretend cross-continental trips are not a common of practice for national representatives?

Only nations run by reclusive dictators don't get send politicians on these long-distance meetings.

How much was spent to protect Pelosi on a trip that could have been a phone call instead?
Please compare this so called "common of practice" during the age of covid.

@Metal-Brain
Fortunately you are not in charge of anything but your comrade mouth.
So you are WAY down the totem pole of influentials. You have ZERO support here unless you call your boss Putin support, but if he decides you are enemy, you will be taken out by one of Putin's polonium salads. So good luck sucking up to them, I hope you chock on it COMRADE.

She is there to create an excuse for a US military buildup in the region. What did it cost the US taxpayer? 30 million?

@Metal-Brain
I don't give a rat's ass HOW much it cost to ship her to Asia, YOU are the one, no doubt under orders, to bring this anti-American issue up.
Your boss goes GOOD WORK COMRADE, EXTRA PAY IN YOUR BROWN BAG TOMORROW WHEN YOU GO TO THE PARK.

A phone call would have saved money.
Did she give someone oral sex? Is that why it had to be done in person?

@Metal-Brain
Why don't you just take over the whole post and just post post and post because I don't give a rats ass WHAT you do. Just do it preferably in Russia where you long to be.

That little? Compared to a single JSF being deployed there? A bargain!

A phone call costs next to nothing. You are silly.
