"Some families in Loudoun County, Virginia, are outraged after a high school history class in which the teacher told the students to pass around cotton.

The lesson last Thursday at Riverside High School involved a discussion surrounding cotton, the invention of the cotton gin and enslavement. As part of the discussion, the teacher passed around a piece of raw cotton," a spokesperson for Loudoun County Public Schools said in a statement to News4.

Loudoun County NAACP President Pastor Michelle Thomas said she received a complaint from a Black student in the class after the lesson at the Leesburg school last Thursday.

"Black students were extremely embarrassed and humiliated. In some sections of the class, we had students that were actually laughing and making jokes," she said.

"The lesson was upsetting to some students. This is contrary to what we believe the teacher - and LCPS - strive to accomplish in our classrooms," LCPS said in its statement. "It is the division’s intention to achieve a safe and inclusive learning environment for all students. That is not what happened here and we must and will do better."

Been many years since I've heard anyone say they "took a cotton" to something. It's become an archaic phrase, I don't think they even say it down South anymore.

If Trump hadn't won we could have been facing a mandatory buy-back of cotton clothing for all white people. They'd have had to turn in their blue jeans and comfy sweatshirts, to be exchanged for garbage bags from which they could fashion new clothes.

He wasn't putting the Dem party down, he was pointing out where they were going wrong and warning them they were losing voters because of their woke liberal lunacy..
Too bad for them they didn't listen and doubled-down on stupid.

So, what you are saying is that the history of cotton making caused embarrasment in a class with students, because reactions in the classroom led to people making jokes about slavery and drawing conclusions to the current state affairs.

And I’m supposed to think what?
That slavery wasn’t bad?
That embarrassing students isn’t bad?
That people being embarrassed about their histories isn’t bad?
That people joking about histories with repurcussions isn’t bad?

What are you actually trying to say here?

It would seem to me, that if you’re in a Catholic area of Belfast, that the moment to joke about the Orange order humiliating the losers is a subject one should approach with a bit of tact. Wouldn’t you agree?
