@shavixmir saidBecause the Tories have screwed up so many things in the past five years, even the Monster Raving Looney Party would do well against them now.
How come Labour’s going to squish the tories then?
-Removed-The problem is that asylum for the politically persecuted, which was a noble cause, was supposed to exclude unrestricted entrance for economic opportunists, but the sheer numbers of entrants on EU southern borders overwhelmed the capacity of the bureaucracy to separate the two groups, so both were let in. This was further complicated by the fact that many entrants ditched their passports en route so the EU did not know any more where to deport them to. When the Libyan border became porous, after toppling Gaddafi, there was no way to stop the boats leaving shore. This problem should have been sorted at source, at the points of departure, through diplomacy; that presupposes a functional government (even if we don't like it), not the anarchy which followed upon toppling Gaddafi. Trying to send the migrants back from points of arrival (primarily Greek and Italian islands) was doomed to fail.
@shavixmir saidIt's not Johnny Foreigner they're worried about. It's Mohammed bin Foreigner.
But.. but… brexit… the UK would become a paradise without johnny foreigner there to open up kebab shops.
😆
@moonbus saidA number of economic indicators show that the UK is worse off now than when the Conservatives came to power: wages have not kept pace with inflation, house prices have risen, the NHS is understaffed and overburdened, etc. All of this on the Tories' watch. People are fed up with them. The vote today is probably less about immigration than domestic issues.
