See. See how racist some people here are.
Unbelievable.
Personally… any national holiday with a paid vacation is a good thing.
As for Juneteenth itself…
Stupid bloody name.
And celebrating the date when the oppressor eventually decided to allow you basic human rights, seems rather minimal.
And considering the black community’s history since then (racist laws, hangings, the KKK, poverty, etc. ) it doesn’t seem to me to be anything worth celebrating.
Sort of like having a national holiday to celebrate the the closure of Auschwitz or the day the native Americans got to live in freedom in reservations.
But who am I to judge.
If people find something important, good for them! And if everyone gets a day off to have a BBQ, good for everyone!
@metal-brainsaid Black people know how to count to 20 and beyond.
It is still stupid. Maybe it should be called illiteracy day.
Me thinks it called commen core edumncation. 2+2 = 5. Wonder who started that? https://www.uschamberfoundation.org/blog/post/common-core-math-explained-3-minutes/43020
@eladarsaid Juneteenth being a celebration of the day some blacks found out about the emancipation proclamation.
A black person today could really get ahead of the pack by simply divorcing himself from all these celebratory movements and increasing his financial lot in life. Or he could carry a sign in the street. Not much return on that kind of investment, though. Someone like me would read it, make note of who is carrying it, and go on my way.
I could teach a hell of class to the ones who want to make something of themselves and give back to society. Prosperity is ripe for the picking.
BTW, CAN ANYONE send me a link on what the BLM is doing for poor black children? Anything?
