@wildgrass said"Nuisance" maybe.
Ellis Island welcomed 8 million people for legal entry into the US.
But when Trump was president, hundreds of thousands crossed the border illegally. Many of them went to work in the farming industry, which Trump then supported with tens of billions in extra cash.

"Catastrophe?" Hardly.
@no1marauder saidIt's a catastrophe. 10,000 illegal encounters per day. Many of these folks would have entered legally if the option existed and now they have no where to go. Thousands sleep on the streets in border towns, we can't keep up or keep track.

The US is a department store, filled with jobs, but the manager of the store is saying it's permanently closed. So everyone who wants a job just starts stealing them.
@wildgrass saidYou're reading too much Breitbart.

The situation could be easily handled simply by passing Biden's modest proposals for increased immigration judges and border security. Long term solutions to make asylum easier and immigration more accessible wound be nice, too.
But there is no "catastrophe"; the US is removing something like 200,000 a month, so any increase in illegal immigration is modest. Plus encounters at the border have dropped dramatically since Biden pressured Mexico to adopt border security measures.
So the sky isn't falling, Chicken Little.

Another way to interpret it is: The situation is not being handled.

That's millions of removals per year? Maybe we are operating under different definitions of "catastrophe". Someone reported earlier that each removal can cost $10,000.
@wildgrass saidBut here is what I am seeing today. You can write on, about 6 years ago, but then you will have to get in the weeds about the 'whys' of it all. I figure he had a reason, but I am not going to look up old news like you fellers do. With respect, if you can show us a synopsis of the reasons, I will be glad to read it, and comment truthfully. I have been mad at him before, you know.

However please see these couple paragraphs and let me know if it sounds like a good plan when he returns to the Oval. Sounds good to me.
,"" Dec 12 (Reuters) - Former U.S. President Donald Trump, the leading candidate for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024, has promised to crack down on illegal immigration and restrict legal immigration if elected to a second four-year term in office.
Here are some of the policies under consideration:
BORDER ENFORCEMENT
Trump has said he would restore his 2019 "remain in Mexico" program, which forced non-Mexican asylum-seekers attempting to enter the United States at the Mexican border to wait in Mexico for the resolution of their cases.
The program was terminated by President Joe Biden, a Democrat who is seeking reelection in 2024. Biden defeated Trump in 2020, pledging more humane and orderly immigration policies, but has struggled with record levels of migrants caught crossing the U.S.-Mexico border illegally.""
Trump has said he will seek to detain all migrants caught crossing the U.S.-Mexico border illegally or violating other immigration laws, ending what he calls "catch and release."
@AverageJoe1
This guy, Trump, has had many plans. He had a whole plan back in 2015, almost 10 years ago, to handle immigration.
We gave him a shot. He had 4 years and failed miserably. He didn't do the things he said he would do. Why do you believe he's a different person now? All of the sudden he accomplishes things instead of just talking and tweeting and golfing?
@wildgrass saidThe Nuisance could be better handled; that doesn't make it a "catastrophe".The situation could be easily handled....

Add up every cent spent on border security and immigration services and it's still chickenfeed compared to the entire federal budget. And that doesn't even take into effect the positive economic benefits of immigration.
@no1marauder saidNuisance was what your man Marx thought of religious leaders. You fellers are really strange. That you think the swelling populations of aliens (illegal) in our country is only a nuisance gives me the creeps.
"Nuisance" maybe.
"Catastrophe?" Hardly.
No pride in your country. Make it another country. 145 countries are being introduced into ours. Ours will become theirs.
Your teachings(brrrrr) are to allow this random melting pot. Did Marx use that phrase? If not, what phrase did he use.?
@wildgrass saidI never said he was perfect. Reagan was close to perfect, but made a few mistakes such as the trading of arms I forgot the details. So for the benefit of argument, let’s say Trump made a mistake. Get ready for this… Has Biden ever made a mistake? Funny that y’all have never pointed one out. Because you are all as weak as he is.

Which president has made the most mistakes? Trump or Biden? Would you like for me to make the question easier to understand, or can you answer it?
You will not answer the question.

Read the headlines! There was a border crisis when Trump was president. Republicans were in charge of fixing it (they told us on the campaign trail they could fix it) and alas they chose to do nothing. All the stuff in Trump's new "plan" could have been done a long time ago, he had plenty of time to do these things but chose not to. You don't seem to want to answer the questions originally posed:
Why didn't the MAGA cult blame Trump for his border crisis in 2018?
Why do you think he is capable of solving this problem, since he made it worse last time?
@no1marauder said200,000 people are "removed" every month, by your math, which is just the PC way to say they are deported.
The Nuisance could be better handled; that doesn't make it a "catastrophe".

Real people with real lives. Just a nuisance to you? These people are being arrested, detained, deported. Moved out of country. The opposite of immigrating.
What are the positive economic benefits of deportation?
@averagejoe1 saidI have no idea what this raving is all about.

The United States is a diverse country and that diversity makes it more interesting, dynamic and prosperous. You've yet to explain why you think this diversity (accomplished largely by various waves of immigration) is undesirable, so undesirable in your mind, that the nation should forego the undoubted economic benefits of present and future immigration.
I'll ignore your tiresome "Marx" comments; I personally admire Groucho more than Karl, but neither is relevant to this discussion.
@wildgrass saidPresent law is too strigent as regards conditions for granting asylum, but certainly there are those who don't qualify for asylum or have committed crimes or misconduct which warrants removal.

Are you now coming out in favor of an actual "open border" i.e. one where everyone he seeks admission has it permanently granted?
One could argue that one benefit of removal of those crossing illegally is to encourage others to follow legal procedures (which admittedly need reform).
@wildgrass saidI just now him to solve problems, starting with draininghte swamp. Actually, next to his closoing the border, the main reason to vot for him is to drain the DC swamp.

Even if trump screwed up the border and is 'reponsbile for the crisis...hahahaha", that would be no reason to join all of he loser liberals and VOTE BIDEN!!!
Imagine!!! Vote for Joe Biden. Let that sink in. Vote for this mummy to run our country.
Togethere herewith, I will do a thread about the fact that the Secretary of Defense was missing for days and no one knew where he was....with 3 WARS going on and the border crisis.
See it this way....Biden never Spoke to the Sec of Defense, and didn't even inquire as to his whereabouts. Your president. The fat General in his uniform was never involved in any briefing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Imagine Trump not knowing where everyone is at any given time. I myslef llike to remember Trump anxious to trot out and answer reporter questions off the cuff for 45 minutes at a time.
Gotta go. Market is great today.
@no1marauder saidNo I don't favor an open border. I favor legislation to make it less comfortable to live in the US illegally.

Present law is too lenient regarding illegal employment, for example. Trump promised e-Verify on the campaign trail in 2015 and then, what, forgot about it? We know that 50% of farm workers are illegal. We know hotel chains that routinely have illegals on their payrolls. Why do we know this and do nothing? Legal immigrants should be furious.
If Republicans secretly think that illegal employment is necessary to lower the cost of strawberry farming, then its Republicans who favor an open border.
