@athousandyoung saidIt is not a Democracy.
A Republic is a kind of Democracy.
The US was founded as a base government unit being the individual State. It makes the US fundamentally different from other major nations of this world.
@no1marauder saidNope. I won't be holding my breath, or crossing my fingers or wishing upon a star.
I hope you don't hold your breath waiting on the "distinct possibility" that the Donald gets over 300 Electoral College votes this time.
If he doesn't pass 300 he wins with less than 300... either way works for me.
How about you... how confident are you that Biden will win?
@lemon-lime saidAround 90%.

@eladar saidNeither statement is true. There are plenty of States that started out and continue to be "confederations".

The United States tried that, found it unworkable and replaced the Articles of Confederation and Perpetual Union with the Constitution with the latter giving vastly more power to the central government.

@eladar saidNo, it makes it a Republic, same as the Romans who invented Republics thousands of years ago.

@athousandyoung saidYes and if we are not careful we will lose our Republic as well.

@athousandyoung saidThe Framers generally used the term "republic" to mean an system where legislative power is delegated to elected representatives rather than wielded by the mass of people as a whole which would be a "democracy":

"The two great points of difference between a democracy and a republic are: first, the delegation of the government, in the latter, to a small number of citizens elected by the rest; secondly, the greater number of citizens, and greater sphere of country, over which the latter may be extended."

@lemon-lime saidYeah I just imagined it all, Trumps an A OK guy. He’s not trying to race bait his way to the White House again.
Mental health professionals are standing by to take your call.
You think I'm kidding, don't you.
Just wait until the election is over. I predict public service announcements to show up urging some people (e.g. TDS sufferers) to seek help.
I guess they must be intercepting his live speeches and changing his words.
It’s you that needs to sit in a dimly lit quiet corner and have a word with yourself.
@kevcvs57 saidNo need to worry about me... I take frequent breaks for easing the on-going assault on the senses.

If Dems win it will be because they succeeded in driving weaker minds mad with the constant noise.
If Reps win it will be because they are unfazed by the other sides audible version of waterboarding.
