Regardless of what you have been TOLD to believe, "woke" is a good thing. It is nothing less than a simple respect for everyone, not just whites, and not just the rich.

If Trump actually believed in meritocracy, he would not have fired thousands of veteran government employees. He would not be insulting our top brass in the military, he would not cut funding to the arts, to science foundations, to education. Instead, he'd be standing up for all those things. All he cares about is that people bow to him and do his bidding, whatever ridiculous thing that is this week. He can't stand being questioned, being criticized, being reviled as the evil person he is. All he sees is himself, and so he is focused on taking money from the people who need it, from institutions that need it, from agencies who provide for the people. He wants everyone in the country to be dumb like him, to be selfish like him, to be white like him.
Good presidents see downtrodden segments of our society and think, "How can I help them retain an equal footing in our society? What can I do for them until they are able to stand up for themselves? How can I help them help America?"
Bad presidents see the downtrodden and think, "How can I keep these undeserving s.o.b.s down? How can I take the money for their welfare already appropriated by Congress and use it for myself? Why won't the people love me?"
Meritocracy? Don't make me laugh. Take one look at Trump's Cabinet. If I had to pay them for what they know, what they can bring to the table, how they can help America, they would be getting less than minimum wage. None of them are deserving of their jobs, none of them deserve to be in charge of thousands of government employees, none of them deserve to be appointed to a position that puts them in front of cameras posing as a societal benefactor. Trump hates America and Americans, so they hate America and Americans. History will not be kind to anyone from this administration. And for good reason.

If "woke" means "inclusive" -- didn't that used to be an American ideal (admittedly maybe just a few decades ago rather than at time of founding)?
More importantly, what do you think about Hegseth calling our top military away from their posts in such roilsome times? Seems like a bad idea to me.
