Homosexuality can be called a mental disorder, rules Chinese court
Homosexuality may be considered “a psychological disorder” in the eyes of Chinese law.
Citing controversial academic literature, a court in the eastern Chinese province of Jiangsu ruled that a textbook defining queerness as a disorder is not “factual error,” but a divergent “academic view,” the South China Morning Post reported. The ruling, from the Suqian Intermediate People’s Court, upholds a lower court’s ruling.

And of course we can expect the LBGT community to be treated in kind:
Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people in the People's Republic of China face legal and social challenges that are not experienced by non-LGBT residents. Same-sex couples are unable to marry or adopt, and households headed by such couples are ineligible for the same legal protections available to heterosexual couples.

I'd say, China has a major hpmophobe problem, as well as their horrific racism problem,
and a vicious slavery and genocide problem.
Go China!! Show us how it's done π’
The post that was quoted here has been removedIs it reasonable to say that China "started from a very conservative base"? As I understand, homosexuality was relatively widely accepted in pre-modern China, until legal sanctions were imposed under the Qing dynasty. I've read that there were also a number of pre-modern works of Chinese literature focusing on same-sex love. Could it not therefore be said that China started from a rather liberal base, before moving temporarily in a more conservative direction?
If I'm correct in this understanding, it would somewhat parallel the situation in Japan, where homosexuality was openly practised (and frequently described in literature) in the Edo Period (1603-1868), before becoming stigmatised (and briefly made illegal) in the late nineteenth century (during a period of Westernisation).

And right off the bat, the frantic, panic stricken Princess is trying to move the goal lines in this thread.
Stop trying to shift focus from China to EoT. China is a concern of 1.4 Billion people, and EoT is just me. :-)
So talk to me about how the Bigoted, Homophobic, Racist, Slave Owning, Low Wage Paying, Genocidal Chinese are doing.
I see below you make an eloquent EXCIUSE as to why China is not so tolerant to LGBT people,
yet you quickly and often tear into Americans, who are FAR more tolerant to LGBTQ, for being... intolerant.
You phony, you fraud. Don't throw stones, you live in a glass house.
@Duchess64
"Chinese homosexuals did not experience persecution which would compare to that experienced by homosexuals
in Christian Europe during the Middle Ages, and in some areas, particularly among the merchant classes, same-sex love was particularly appreciated."

Notice how Duchess64 cherry-picked here to show how China was so much more tolerant to homosexuals back then
but obviously what is happening today is far more relevant, isn't it, Duchess? Duchess, the next time
you lay into Americans for being homophobic, guess who's going to have a surprise waiting for you.
The post that was quoted here has been removedI demonized a LEFTIST initiative for it hypocrisy. That is why known leftist operatives in RHP would not be impressed.
It had NOTHING whatsoever to do with my alleged picking on trans women.
Again you lie like a rug.
And I have yet to see a poster that you rejoindered without a scad of lying ad hominins
Oh, excuse me.... and that is well-known by RHP posters. So smile and take it.
@Duchess64 -
It's Westerners (particularly Christians) who essentially taught the Chinese and Japanese to fear or hate homosexual people.
Personally, I believe you are lying like a rug again, but I'll be damned if I am going to argue the point. I'd rather we go with it. Ok?
If the Chinese and Japanese were STOOPID enough to listen to Westerners, they *deserve* to be thought of as inferior people.
Put that one on for size, bigot girl. you like? π π
@earl-of-trumps saidWho thinks of Chinese or Japanese as inferior people?

The post that was quoted here has been removedIt's slightly more complex than that, however. In the first place, the Japanese jurists who decided to criminalise "keikan" / sodomy in 1872 may in part have been inspired by Western models; but they also, according to Bernard Faure, drew on the legal codes enforced in Qing China! (This doesn't of course undermine the general point you make, in so far as those Qing prohibitions may themselves have been inspired by Western influences in China).
Homosexuality was decriminalised in Japan after only eight years, in 1880. This also seems to have been inspired by a Western intervention. French jurist Gustave-Émile Boissonade was invited to Japan in order to help modernise the legal code. He (as one might expect given his background) proposed the adoption of a legal code based on Napoleonic Code, which had decriminalised such "imaginary" crimes of sodomy.
As for the main concern of this thread, I don't believe modern China is the easiest place in the world to be gay. But it is far from the hardest.

Dear Earl - It appears your honeymoon has ended.
It's important to remember, there are no strangers in the world - There are only friends you haven't met. π
