Tips are earned, you are incorrect
a tip is a gratuity....you are not required to give a tip

Mott,,,,,we don't want to lose you, man.
If you were a waiter and I left you a $20 for your service, $25 if it was good service, that is income to you. I pay the Deli for the food, and you for the service. If I were Shav, I guess I would stiff the guy on the service. Sad.

Now, follow me. If I were walking down the street at Christmas and saw you, thinking what a nice guy you are, I might hand you a $100 and say Merry Christmas. THAT is a gift.
If you still don't like my point, you need but tell us the difference in the two.
PS: You are sounding like a liberal, changing the premise...Who said anything about being 'required'? You're worrying me.

The money cannot be treated the same.

LOL...No, you pay the restaurant for the food and service.

Even if true, so what? Tips are income and taxes should be paid on them.

It's less of an issue now that most people pay with cards anyway.
Exactly.......
Tipping goes through the establishment's accounting system.
And I would not be surprised if the establishment takes a cut of the tips.
I've seen that happening back in the 80's.

If I give a waiter/ress $5 how does it go through the establishment?

I haven't read he above posts, since the subject stands on its own legs, as to what tips are. As to 'where' it goes, there are several ways to treat them, even that the waiters split all even at the end of the day.
Anyway, check out the thread** where after a full page of an extremely simple question, Kev and Wildgrass write about everything except the question, which is about tips!!!!!
So, Why Do Libs Not Answer QUESTIONS?!

I don't actually hand the $5 directly to the server. I enter it into the payment device.
From there it is up to the establishment to forward that to the server.
Anyone who pays with a credit or debit card knows that.
Now the establishment may decide to split that tip totals evenly throughout the restaurant staff, including the chef's in the kitchen.
And some establishments probably take a cut.
I knew of one place back in the 80's that gave every server $25 at the end of the night.
And kept the rest. (I hope they got reported)

Then again, Republicans don't like cops persecuting criminals, either. Their function is to shoot people in the back for the sin of being black, or autistic.

Come on, this is well known.

All tips are to put into the tip jar. Keeping your tip for yourself is an instant firing offence. At the end of the month, whatever remains in the tip jar after the necessary deductions, is divided between the staff, with servers getting half as much each as the owner and cooks getting zilch.

Be careful, Joe. Being found asleep in a public place is suspicious. That cop would be completely in his rights to consider you a dangerous person who (being asleep) does not heed his commands, and therefore to put you in a strangle-hold for your own safety.

When I get before the judge and jury, I will simply present all these posts as evidence and be totally exonerated. Unless, of course, the judge is a liberal, who would cherry pick the ones he likes, and discard all the ones that don't suit him!!............., and throw me in prison.
I might could possibly sway him with Shav-reasoning...."Your Honor, I have a right to everything!!", which as a liberal he cannot deny.
