The right wingers are stuck in a delusion of propaganda. They are fed a constant stream of "we will just leave" from a media owned by billionaires.

Of course they don't leave. They don't want to pay the bill. But they're the only ones with money.

You do realize that people pay income taxes where they earn the income not necessarily where they live?

From other obscenely rich Yanks.

It's bad advertising being the president "who raised taxes".

Political ads don't need to explain why taxes were raised, just the fact they were. Then all sorts of blame is laid on that president as taking money away from Americans.

Nuance doesn't matter in U.S. politics, emotion does.
Not nuance, not emotion.

Just greed.

"Why not quit giving tax payer money to other countries?"

Why not quit giving tax payer money to people who are already rich?

so saving billions is not close? do you understand how counting works?
$40 billion is to $40 trillion as $40 is to $40,000.

And you say harm this man to make it better…but keep on spending

Taxing Apartheid Boy more wouldn't be "harming" him in the least.

Why must you people rob from the poor to give to the obscenely rich?

Are you stupid?

I'm guessing you're a lot closer to being poor than being obscenely rich. Do you seriously think showing fealty to the obscenely rich will make you rich?

Yes, when it comes to politicians. When discussing American voters, emotions matter more than facts, nuance or common sense.

That's why Jan 6th happened despite 60 courts, including SCOTUS, dismissed claims of a "stolen election". What Trump made them feel mattered more than facts.

Well they had the makings of a great empire.
An important consideration is that Clinton fixed most of Reagan's mess just a decade later, only to have it crumble again with the giddy promise of free money from Republicans. When they won in 2000, the message they received was that no one cares about deficits anymore.

This is a dumb myth that's been debunked and you keep thinking it's true.

Very few billionaires are going to uproot their family and lives and leave their home and neighborhood and friends and business in order to move to a state like Florida where they wrestle alligators on Tuesdays just because of a few percentage points in income tax relief. Of course there are a few prominent exceptions, but overall it's a myth. You'd have to be insane. In which case, good riddance.

... the directional pattern is limited. Millionaire movers are slightly more likely to move to lower-tax states than to higher-tax states: 47% compared with 32%. That 15-point gap provides a rough measure of the net excess movement toward lower-tax places. More technical analysis points in the same direction, suggesting that about one in seven millionaire moves are tax-motivated migration.

But that is one in seven millionaire movers, not one in seven millionaires. Millionaires themselves rarely move. Once we combine the modest tax tilt among movers with the low overall rate of millionaire migration, tax-motivated migration becomes a very small slice of a small slice: 0.3% of the millionaire population moves for tax-purposes each year. It’s not zero, but looks nothing like the exodus often described in political debates.

Im far from a progressive but i like Liz Warrens proposal to tax wealth above $50 million at one penny per dollar. This would fully close the budget gap. The tax goes away as soon as government starts spending less. It would also put real pressure on politicians to start cutting spending because many of their donors would want that to go away.
It is a suggested One Percent tax. Why do you say 'One penny per dollar'? Be honest, what is your purpose in not talking in economic terms.
In all meetings about this at the higher levels, non one will ever say the faerie phrase "One penny per dollar'. Is it meant to sound like peanuts? OF course it is, and that is why you soften your post.
But you don't fool AvJoe!!!!

One percent here one percent there ....adds up

No not really adding here. We're trying to fill in the $2 trillion deficit and $40 trillion debt with some money from someone.

Let's assume you have $40 million. You pay nothing in extra taxes.

Now let's assume you are a hedge fund manager with $500 million in wealth. In a bad year in the market, you could easily turn that into $50 million profit, right? With the 1% wealth tax, you still make $45 million, and the extra 1% would fill the budget gap.

The rich still get richer, just slightly more slowly, the budget deficit goes away, its a win-win for everyone.
