Humor would be if you said 'Hell, Joe, Plan A ain't working out, what a mess...". I respond, 'well, there are 25 more letters in the alphabet'. Not funny, but it is late and I can't think of anything! It is an off the cuff un-planned remark, meant to make you laugh. It is original. Comedy is a routine. Hope that helps.
Note: I indeed did NOT attempt comedy in my post. I don't know anything about it. Can you imagine sitting in a seedy comedy club? Creepers.

A friend of mine from Mississippi was recognized by another Mississippian by his accent. When my friend told me that, I responded,..."Accent? Hell, it was your grammar!" This made all the guys around the coffee table laugh.
So if you take that as a definition of humor, which it of course is, coming from AvJoe, then you need not write silly stuff like,,,,

Shav, humor was my saying at the outset that I need to 'learn this to you again'. BTW, humor is not actually meant to elicit a laugh, as you suggest up top. It is to bring people comfortably to a gregarious level or some such. Did you research Maruader? Do Sonhouse too!
It is used for a lot of things. Reagan used it a good bit.
