@shavixmir saidI don't know. It looked like a smile/smirk after the slap when he turned to walk away. That was my impression when I first saw it and in subsequent viewings.
It wasn’t staged.
Smith has now apologised to Rock (which he didn’t do during his acceptance speech).
The slap increased ratings in a show that has been in decline of late. For many reasons, mostly involving cable and streaming, the Academy Awards is no longer the occasion it used to be when everyone gathered together around a network TV to watch the show. Movies ain't what they used to be either, now appealing mostly to kids through these monster franchises. Covid just about put the final nails in the coffin. And yet, the slap has generated interest. Clicks, likes, debates!
So are they playing the audience like a WWE event now? Did Smith and Jada not know they would be prime targets given that Rock has pointedly made fun of them in the past?
And funnily enough Chris Rock saw tickets surge in his Ego Death World Tour today as far afield as Australia, where he will perform in August. I wonder what new topic he could possibly have to talk about hey...we'll just have to wait and see!
@shavixmir saidThis is the first opinion on this that makes sense.

You can’t behave like that towards comedians. What sort of example is that to set? If you don’t like how a comedian treats a heckler, just get up on stage and assault him? Complete madness.
You don’t like a joke? Don’t laugh.
Good on Rock for not pressing charges.
...[text shortened]... ice need Rock’s statement on this.
But what are they going to charge Smith with? Slapping someone?
Comedians are known for roasting people. Sometimes they cross the line. But to disallow them from feeling free to exercise their free speech for fear of somebody rushing the stage is a valid point.
If Smith had not used violence in his reaction to Rock, then Rock would have been forced to own up to his repellent remark making fun of someone with a medical condition. As it is, people are talking more about the slap than they are the outrageous thing Rock said that caused the reaction in the first place.
@metal-brain saidThe message I would like kids to get is that they are not snowflakes and the world does not revolve around them. That they are responsible for the things they say. Something you apparently have never learned.
"But what are they going to charge Smith with? Slapping someone?"
It is called assault. It is against the law in the USA. If you do that to your spouse you get charged with assault whether the spouse wants him charged or not. Same should apply here. Now kids watching think that is acceptable behavior.
As long as you are defending the honor of your wife assault is acceptable. Is that the message you want kids to get?
@shavixmir saidDon't like a joke, you say. Exactly. Libs are devoid of humor. They do not even get nuance or double entendre's or any such jovialities. They are angry and that is that. Even the filthy rich libs are angry. Do you think maybe that the wife told that guy, who had just laughed at the joke, to do something about it!? Will the Wimp.

@metal-brain saidNot that Chris Rock needs the money, but there is big money if he brings an action against Smith . Not the press charges thingy,,,, a civil suit.

@averagejoe1 saidCould you Neanderthals at least spell my name right?
Suzanne nails me once again !
@suzianne saidSuzianne, as you expound on lessons, what lesson should I teach my GDaughter about the practice (of Will and Jada) of spouses who sleep around? We know that libs are bringing all this lifestyle into acceptable culture, but how do we square it?
Too bad you didn't use the event as a lesson.
You know, "Real men defend their wives," something like that.
No, here you are, whining about "bad words".
@metal-brain saidDo you mean unless suzianne is from Africa?
Are you implying Neanderthals are dumb?
You are part Neanderthal unless you are a Negro.
I think you know that the poster is referring to a globally accepted term for a certain retro attitude, what am I saying you probably don’t understand even that much

Cameras clearly show Smith laughing his a** off, but when he saw his wife's look of disapproval he decided to jump up and slap Chris Rock. Then after returning to his seat he started yelling at Rock and dropping f-bombs.
At the Oscars.....on worldwide television.....
Not exactly a class act.
I think his Oscar should be rescinded and he should get a lifetime ban from future Academy Award programs.

at The Super Bowl Show, much more enjoyable.
@averagejoe1 saidYah… how many conservative comedians do you know? Barrel of fukking laughs the lot of you right-wing nutters.
