The message I would like kids to get is that they are not snowflakes and the world does not revolve around them. That they are responsible for the things they say. Something you apparently have never learned.
If Chris Rock deserved to be slapped then Ricky Gervais deserves a blanket party.
😆

Not sure about Will Smith, but this seems to be a blessing for Chris Rock.

See? Right-wing conservatives just aren’t funny.

After one said: “My wife’s a dear, I can’t wait for hunting season to open.”
And another replied: “What do you call a Jew with two gas bottles? A dealer.”
It all just went down hill…

I don’t think he was defending his wife’s honour, he was taking it in his stride until he saw the crushed look on his wife’s face, I think he cracked a bit at that point and clearly regretted it in the aftermath.
It’s a shame it spoiled what should have been one of the biggest nights of his life.
As for the kids I would advise any parent or guardian to talk about these thi ...[text shortened]... ildren and they may have witnessed the pain that bullying remarks can cause regarding the condition.
I think that is a very wise take.

This is the first opinion on this that makes sense.

Comedians are known for roasting people. Sometimes they cross the line. But to disallow them from feeling free to exercise their free speech for fear of somebody rushing the stage is a valid point.

If Smith had not used violence in his reaction to Rock, then Rock would have been forced to own up to his repellent rem ...[text shortened]... t the slap than they are the outrageous thing Rock said that caused the reaction in the first place.
If it wasn't staged and that's probably more likely, then it brings into sharp focus the acceptance speech, where apart from the emotion of winning for King Richard, you get a sense that in that moment its dawned on him that he's actions could leave him cancelled, and suddenly he's also finding words to salvage his career.

Within the context of roasts, Rock's comments were hardly the worst. For one, GI Jane was a 25 year old reference.

But has anyone heard of Joan Rivers or Don Rickles?

Jimmy Dore is a comedian and you should see what comedians are saying about it.
They feel less safe.

If you watch this it will take away any possibility it was planned. Will Smith went on to embarrass himself in front of the whole world with his contradictory comments that night.

Of course it wasn’t planned.
Of course it’s not good for comedians, comedy or the role of court jester. If you can’t, as the comic, stand up and joke about anything and everything, then you’re destroying society.

Another point that should be made is that Will Smith received a standing ovation when he won best actor. After assaulting someone in public.

That sycofantic behaviour is terrible. Whether it’s the hypocrisy of actors or whether it’s republicans standing up for trump.
