I'm interested in knowing what you left wingers actually believe in. All my life all I've ever heard is snide comments and conservative bashing from you guys. Never have I heard what you actually want from this world and what you believe to be true and right. Here is your chance to sell me on your beliefs.

A place situations are progressed rather than just dealt with.
Where opportunity is equal and steps are taken to make the world more equal.
A willingness to apprieciate a less fortunates persons position.
Personally, I don't want to be constrained by a god or what a book says.
Liberalism is freedom. Freedom of thought and expression.
Although left wing is not how I would define myself, I'm more comfortable with liberal as a tag.

Funny - back in my home country, people on the right (end of the political spectrum, I mean) call me a "leftist liberal secularist pinko".
Freedom for individuals to be what they want to be.
This freedom means they must be taught how to be free.
Choice, creativity and happiness apparant in all.
This means they must have the freedom to choose, to be creative and to be happy.
Happiness is based on food, shelter, clothing, education, good health.
All is based on everyone. Not just the West.

Hmmmmm from what I've seen........
Liberal=taxes + taxes + more taxes
Liberal = overspending
Liberal = complete mismanagements of funds
Liberal = free = at the cost of the working class
Liberal = more government involvement/ control

Free people aren't equal
Equal people aren't free.
Generally Lefties favour personal freedom but heavy handed gummint economic controls.
Right wing: Free (er?) market types, but clamp down on personal freedoms, drugs, abortion etc.

Anyway, my liberal view:
A world where physical violence of any sort, militaristic or civilian, is not present.
Where money is spent, not on treating symptoms, but eradicating problems a the source.
Where all people of all colours, creeds and nationalities, live without fear of violence, oppression, derision or exploitation and where unique cultures are celebrated rather than used as safety shields or barriers to keep others out.
Where religion is a personal agenda which is practiced privately for those who hold it, but it has no place in influencing government.
Where laws are changed to support the weak, instead of the powerful.
Where government is transparent and fully democratic.
Where the media does not shape people's ideologies, but the reverse.
Where education is encouraging and knowledge is held as the most important aspect of life.
Where people are more concerned with improving their minds, than getting rich, or having more control, status or posessions.
Where sexual and emotional relationships are two seperate things.
Where there is no death penalty and the emphasis of law is not to incarcerate, but to reform.
Where the pursuit of art, music and literature are more of a driving force for economies than sales, advertising, pharmaceuticals, insurance and banks etc.
Where people realise a suit and tie is in no way a suggestion of depth of character or credentials for positions of power.
Where people have access to help when they need it, not afterwards by way of compensation.
Where there is a general social understanding that the better we try and be, the better the world we live in will become.
Where revenge and jealousy arewords nobody remembers or understands.
Naive? Maybe, but I think it's worth hoping for nonetheless.

I just don't care for wealth. It's overrated.
Let me be free, healthy and well fed.
Let you be wealthy on your barren island....

If you have a right to your freedom then you must recognise that same right in others.
Freedom is the right to live free from force, threats of force and fraud.
I am not wealthy by todays average standards but compared to the average standard 50 - 100 years ago, very well off.
Don't know what this talk of islands is, but I think you'll find the few privately owned islands are far from 'barren'.
