Debates

The party that used to be limited government, now intrudes everywhere. Banning masks, outlawing abortion, dictating the precise lesson plans for teachers, making it harder to vote. Denying freedoms. They're interfering constantly in the most intimate moments of life.

COVIDs overblown and Jan. 6th didn't happen, but transgender athletes are destroying society?

This isn't limited government folks, no matter how you slice it.

The GOP:

- Has activist (as well as authoritarian) tendencies.
- Legislates their form of morality.
- Governs by grievance.
- Tells businesses what they can and can’t do.
- Strips away authority from election officials and concentrate it among those in power.

Where's my limited government?

Good morning. Let's discuss it. Love it. But first,, please respond to this website which I attach herewith. A short comparison. I love the very first one, that mentions free market. I will wager that neither that phrase, nor the following phrase, Individual rights, appear in the Democrat column. What you ask in this post flies right in the face of this article. Thanks .

That article does not even mention limited government, which is the title of this thread. Actually, that seems to confirm my assertion that limited government is not a feature of the Republican party.

I asked about limited government, not your social justice warrior issues which expand big brother's role in our lives. Your article highlights my concern, that Republicans are more concerned with their culture war against gay marriage (as if marriage was a religion-driven contract), tariffs and new laws about what teachers can't talk about, and banning books/masks in schools.

Republicans now want MORE government. Look at the SCOTUS nomination hearing. Federally mandated sentences, cutting out the role of judges in decision making and state governments in setting laws/guidelines.

Republicans once called government the problem. But government dramatically expanded under the former guy in 2017-2019, without any excuse that might be considered a crisis, and way beyond what would be considered a normal year for O-bummer. You can look at your darn comparative websites that don't suggest limited government at all. Look at the darn receipts. Spending way up, deficits way up. No rhyme or reason other than that the Republicans have abandoned their fundamental principles.

Now you want Republicans to tell people what they can and can't wear for clothing? Yeesh. That sound like limited government to you?

its sad that someone needs to isnt it?

The Republican party I remember used to think that "someone" should not be the government. That position has changed, evident in the bathroom bills and bans on masking and bans on what teachers can and can't say in classrooms and obsessions over federally-imposed mandates on what used to be left to state governments and judicial discretion. Sheeeeeeeesh.

It’s sad that someone feels like they need to inspect someone else’s underwear.
Buy your used undies online like any other self respecting socially conservative Republican and leave government out of it.

This could go ad nauseum , I could pick just one item, Trump did away with regulations. Regulations (lib concepts) impede progress, limit freedom and liberty. They require more government, Wildgrass. Republicans want to be left the hell alone, so we can work, produce, get rich (sorry Suzianne). We want limited government. Parse it any way you want. Would you say Marx was into controlling ‘the people’, being sure that well-off Bill gave his stuff to Jack, who didn’t work so hard? Socialism**. So, who leans more to that concept?. Libs. It takes control, so libs want more govt than do cons. Whew.
You are also all into what repubs are doing, when all we want to do is be left alone. Wouldn’t you say that libs need productive cons a lot more than we need frisbee throwing collective libs.? Who are the most dependent in our society? Libs or cons? Wildgrass? You’ve seen my avatar. Could ‘t Be more simple.

** my definition, there are many I am sure.

No it can't go on ad nauseum. You're wrong. Mott just suggested that governments tell people what clothes they can wear. Does that sound limited?

Limited governments spend less. Trump spent more.

Limited governments regulate less. Trump regulated more.

Limited governments do not impose their values on society. Conservatives do that all the darn time.

Stop it with the virtue signaling and culture wars, conservatives. I hate it.

1. Libs are more activists. Get real. I would not even know where to buy a poster, and I have never walked in a street.
2. OK. So libs legislate their forms of morality.
3. I guess a case can be made for governing by grievance. What other method would you suggest?
4. Regulations (Obama loved and instituted them) are tools to tell biz what to do. Trump got rid of the dam things. You now inspire me to do a Rrump thread, lest you forget Trump accomplishments.
5. You don’t make sense with this one. Perhaps rephrase?

Where is the limited govt? It’s concept ended with feeble Joe. (Actually Obama who is running things, on the road to transforming America. I assume you are teaching dependence to your children?

Libs are devoid of humor, so I see how Mott is over your head, nuance is not your thing.
Is Biden about spending? What’s the printing press at right now, my granny says she heard FIVE TRILLION$$$. Wildgrass?
Are you for real? Trump dumped Obama regulations. You say he regulated more.
So your disingenuous-ness has lost me on this thread. I’m out.

Didn't notice anything much of a
rebuttal to Wildgrasse's argument.
Is that your best?

I've already said I don't know about the future (although I'm not sure how you do). Time will tell.

Since I'm not a wizard, all I can do is look back on the history of conservatism and their so-called limited government. The former guy doubled federal direct payouts to farmers (for what? Not growing crops). Do you think that $40 billion per year is ever going away?

Deficit spending was decreasing year over year every single year from 2009 to 2017. Then it doubled in 2018. What changed? The president in the White House.

Trump created more debt than Obama by dramatically increasing deficit spending. Trump did it in half the time. You want to point to the strong economy from '17-'19 and say "deregulation" when the main reason was insane government spending.
